Hey Mainahs! A Bar Harbor question.

My wife and I will be spending a night there. Does anyone have any recommendations of places to stay? Preferably within walking distance of downtown. Hotels and B&Bs are fine.

Also, a recommendation of a good restaurant for dinner?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Hey Mainahs! A Bar Harbor question.

If you're both seafood indulgers, I would have to think there is a good wharf or place on the water somewhere nearby for a nice dinner.

Not too familiar with the area up that far north though unfortunately, I'm pretty good for around Freeport and the surrounding area, however.

Hope you have a great stay up there, hopefully the rain will stop for you, and for me in August when I go up with the family for a long weekend:)

I live here what the heck do I know about hotels in the area:D

I hope you aren't coming this week, weather sucks, on the plus side no one is on the island right now. Its as dead as I've seen it.

Well be up in August. Clean up the guest room! ;-)

Re: Hey Mainahs! A Bar Harbor question.

The Burning Tree has the best seafood on the Island. Galyn's Galley is good. Havana is excellent. There's an Italian on Main Street up past the park that is quite good. Fiddler's Green in So'west is superb. XYZ over there is very good for Mexican/South American. The Claremont at sunset is a very good bet.

Those are a few right off the top of my head. If you have specific criteria in terms of menu, location, or price and you want to email me directly, I can get ahold of my colleague who sells wine up there.

I'm pretty far from Bar Harbor(hour drive) so I doubt that works well for ya. My shedding Golden Retreiver might share his bed though:D .

The Harborside Hotel, Spa, and Marina has the best location (in my opinion) of any hotel near downtown bar harbor:

This B&B has a great location near downtown and the town pier:

Pretty much any B&B "downtown" will be an easy walk to all the shops.

I have not stayed at either, but I have heard good things about the harborside.

Arrange for a tour of The Jackson Laboratory and you'll probably walk by my office :)
