Here comes the 5th year !!

I wonder if they would open any sort of special portal window for current four-years-used seniors who get told "there's no room on our fall roster for you".

I believe part of the 5 year plan is to also eliminate any red shirt years.
And medical hardship years.

(Though I wouldn't be surprised if medical hardship years came back after a few years of sob stories, turning the proposed "5 in 5" to a more limited "5 in 6" somewhere down the road.)

The 5 year eligibility will be approved and start in 27-28…. This years seniors will be ineligible for the 5th year.
PWHL has breathed a sigh of relief as had this rule included this years seniors it would not have combined well with their expansion.

(There is also a proposal to shift the "burden of proof" in cases of alleged transfer portal tampering. That is, if a school is accused of impermissible contact with an athlete at another school, that alleged contact is presumed to have occurred, with penalties forthcoming, unless and until the accused school proves that no such contact occurred.)

Hate this.

Agree with get your degree (or not) and move on.

I don't mind the current redshirt and medical hardship exceptions but players should only be able to actually play 4 seasons.

Of course the bona fide first - third rounders are going to leave school after 4 years. I'm not sure why they would want to play a fifth year except to try to increase their stock value.

Not so fast… They will
Stay in school to possibly get an accelerated masters AND take advantage of the NIL money now available..
Live another year expense free, play a ton of minutes and make NIL money which is way more attractive than living in some new city paying rent and having real expenses.
You will be surprised how many girls stay in school… it’s waaay different than the guys that can’t wait to leave.
