Has your team ever been ranked?

Re: Has your team ever been ranked?

There's one glaring omission from this one way or another and it's a school that no longer has a program but did back when you began your tallying your research.
I'll be honest. Until you brought that up, I had forgotten that Scranton even had existed. I'm not really that good at the history of D-III hockey, and doing this research helped me learn about some of that, including how strong some teams were in the past.

I've been following D-III hockey for about the last seven years; but only recently have I been following the whole landscape of D-III hockey, and not just Fitchburg State and the ECAC. I don't have a good grasp on teams that existed ten years ago, and don't today.

The first three lists are meant to consist of the 72 D-III teams that currently are active, plus any team that happened to receive votes or be ranked during the timeframe of my research. RIT happened to be the only team that doesn't play D-III hockey anymore and received votes over this stretch, which is why they appear in these lists. As for schools such as Scranton and MCLA, I never came across them in my two dives through the poll archives (and sort of forgot that they ever existed). Therefore, I didn't include them in my lists.

If you guys want me to include folded programs in the lists, I'll do that. Just give me everyone I missed. Of course; If I include them, those programs would only appear on the "never received votes" list, since that's the only list they qualify for.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Matt Rennell has led you astray. That said:

Matt Rennell has led you astray.

<strike>Probably.</strike> Wait a minute...

...As for schools such as Scranton and MCLA,...

I wasn't led astray at all!

Anyway, <strike>I have to update this in two hours.</strike> Like I said; if I forgot anyone, tell me who, and I'll include them in the lists.

(Random note: Responding to my response with a compilation of facepalms doesn't help much either.)

Probably.

He was referring to the MCLA Mohawks, who have since changed their name to the Tralblazers. They discontinued DIII Hockey in 2003. According to this article:

MCLA, formerly North Adams State College, has had a varsity program since 1971 and was a member of the ECAC East. The team finished at or near the top of the ECAC East several times in the early 1980’s but has had just one winning season since 1986.

Re: Has your team ever been ranked?

Knew they existed. Didn't know they were called the Mohawks.

Anyway, new poll is out. Lists have been updated accordingly.

Yeah, the MCLA Mohawks, formerly the North Adams State College Mohawks.

I don't believe the hockey team ever played as the Trailblazers, although they may have in their final year. Don't recall them ever getting ranked but they probably received votes when they ran to the ECAC East title game in 2002.

From what I compiled, they didn't receive any votes. I actually pointed this out in a previous post.

Maybe they deserved some votes. But <strike>unless I missed something,</strike> they didn't get any (I double-checked).

Good to know. Great work compiling all this. Being one of the few around here (Is vetdome around anymore?) that supported MCLA hockey I'm sure you can understand why I was a little snippy about their exclusion.

The did play as the Trailblazers. I remember you getting all wound up about it. I can understand - when I went to Dartmouth they were the Indians - now they're a park (what else is a Big Green?). At least Mohawks did blaze trails.

Re: Has your team ever been ranked?

True, I also wanted to point out, that Dartmouth has this mascot, and they aren't even in Wisconsin :p

Don't think the administration is going to allow Keggy to be an official mascot, any more than RISD admin is going to go for their unofficial mascot. In fact, both of these appear on this site.

He is the cutest (from your provided link), and they are allowing this on the official Dartmouth.edu website

There is also a movement to have him declared the official mascot of Missouri State University.

PS
I'd take Keggy over the Ground Round Pound Puppy anyday!!!!

Yeah, you can understand why I'd rather forget about that. Stupid hippie-fication of the school and all that.

I was out at Dartmouth last weekend, the Alpha Delta house was a must-see for me. :D

Re: Has your team ever been ranked? (and other D-III poll related lists)

To next to no fanfare, the first D-III poll is out. I was expecting some interesting and weird predictions to shake out in the polls, as that typically happens in the first poll.

That didn't happen. The first poll of the 2010-11 season looks really similar to pretty much any other poll from the end of last season (top 15 same as the last three polls, bottom few teams getting less than 35 points, NEC getting points). Besides everyone extending their "consecutive weeks ranked" streaks for another week, here are the interesting voting quirks for this weeks poll:

Babson: Received votes for first time since November 23, 2009
Geneseo: Received votes for the first time since January 12, 2009

Yeah, that's all I've got.

Re: Has your team ever been ranked?

And the only conference without a single school getting a vote?

Yep - the MASCAC. I feel like Rodney Dangerfield.

Others Receiving Votes: ..., Wisconsin-Stevens Point 1, Wisconsin-Stout 1

So maybe despite everything, 2010's Wisconsin-Stevens Point = Wisconsin-Stout & > MASCAC ... hummmm.... that's all I've got ;)
