Has UND lost in conference realignment?

Yes, I read his post. UND sells out their arena. The Gophers don't. What about what he said was incorrect? You don't know how many people are watching. For either fanbase. So how do you figure there are more fans? Even if we assume they do have more viewers, what does that get them?

You are resorting to your old trick of moving the goalposts. Here is your first foray into this discussion:

You started the revenue ****ing match. In fact you brought it up multiple times. "There is good reason UMN leads the NCAA in revenue annually, regardless of attendance." So what is the reason? Because the money that they are getting from their TV deal is insignificant when you compare it to the ticket revenue each team brings in.

No, he literally said "they bring in more than 10k fans per game which is more than I can say for UMTC". Again, how are the Gophers supposed to fit more than 10,000 fans in their arena when that is it's capacity?

And really, there isn't anything to discuss on revenue. Minnesota makes the most, as reported by schools. The point of bringing that up, again, was to illustrate that Minnesota really has no need for a larger arena capacity.

I guess my strategy going into this was to get JDUBBS II to consider that there are other programs on the level of the Gophers. I guess I haven't learned my lesson yet.

When did I ever say there weren't programs on the level of Minnesota? I never said UND wasn't on "Minnesota's level". I was just saying that trying to ridicule Minnesota for not leading the nation in attendance is asinine.

I didn't start the discussion comparing attendance levels, I just pointed out how stupid it is to compare Minnesota's attendance with UND's because A) the arenas have different capacities and B) television (like it or not) plays a big factor. Some people just like to watch from home and UMN gives it's fans a lot of opportunities (in HD) to do so.

That's not boasting or arrogance, that's just flat out reality. It's a dumb argument anyways. Both fan bases are great fan bases.

I am Gophers fan to the core, but there are a lot of other viable college programs that promote the game and I wouldn't have it any other way. I loved watching UMD win the NC, seeing SCSU and BSU get the FF and would support MSUM in the same so long as they don't beat the Gophers. You may never like us, but I love the college game and it isn't going survive without efforts that extend far, far beyond UM.

Completely agree with this, and I do the same.

Re: Has UND lost in conference realignment?

Susie Hockey sits at the very pinnacle of entertainment options in Grand Forks. Quite possibly the entire state if you don't include the Bakken circle jerks.

And yet all they can garner for attendance for Siouxage games is 12k?

In the dead of winter?

Put them on the ice?

Let's just face it--Sioux hockey players are gods and the Ralph is Mt. Olympus. This inspires a great deal of jealousy among the mere mortals living east of the Red. The anxiety is highest among the goat-farking peasants who crossed the St. Croix but lacked the stones to keep going.

Hmmmm :p:D

Over and over and over again some UND fans act out their desperate need to have the program considered "the best." Fans that did not play hockey for UND and may not even have attended UND. Brings to mind Hamlet's words, "What's Hecuba to him or he to Hecuba."

Re: Has UND lost in conference realignment?

This seems like a fun place. I had a Sioux (sorry, Flickertail) fan try to argue that UND was the most followed hockey team in the country at the college level. Much like UND's supposed good education...there was no evidence to back it up. He also claimed that he would rather have Hakstol over Lucia, but that's a different discussion.

Who said anything about needing to be the best? I'm just trying to understand how we're supposed to sell 12,000+ tickets to a game in an arena with a capacity of only 10,000, or why we should even care if we sell more tickets than UND? So that we can make even more money than UND annually? Big Ten is helping us do that :D

CC made the statement, we're just trying to understand it. Strike that, we're making fun of it :p:D

In all fairness, our arena only has a capacity of 10,000. And when you have the nation's richest TV coverage, it's splitting hairs when talking about attendance. There is good reason UMN leads the NCAA in revenue annually, regardless of attendance.

I solved this same problem for some gopher fans at Sally's Bar a few years ago, 4 guys all wanted to sit down on the same stool so I turned it upside down and poof they fit. In other news, UND should be ashamed of the tv coverage they provide. I have no problem saying that I'm jealous of how well the gopher hockey coverage is run and I hope the world doesn't end because I made that statement but I really am getting ****ed off that every year UND's media package gets worse and Dan Hammer should be beat with a sock full of rusty nails.

It still puzzles me why UND agreed to that CBS sports TV deal. UND is the straw that stirs the drink in the NCHC and they had a pretty good TV thing going before hand. I wonder if they will try and renegotiate at some point and remove the exclusivity clause for games not carried by CBS Sports. That would make most sense to me.

By the way, my comments had nothing to do with the original topic of this thread. I think UND is and will be just fine :)

Is there one? Don't know enough to know...but that sounds like this could have been a significant error.

I think chances are good they sail through this. But there is some risk at UND, DU and other campuses...much of it is beyond their control.

Yes. It's between $100 and $10000 depending on the level.

You know any argument is stupid when even I refuse to get involved in it. Although it is sort of amusing that a Minnesota and SCSU fan are getting into an argument over UND.
But he is not a St.Cloud fan.

Re: Has UND lost in conference realignment?

- How is the UMN supposed to sell more than 10,000 tickets when that is Mariucci's capacity?

Well instead of watching all the games from a recliner that smells like bum urine and wet cat food some alumni could pitch in for an arena that supports the full scale fan arrogance and attendance UMTC deserves, or just move the games to Ridder Arena so the billion $ broadcasts feel like they are being held in a sold out arena. ;)

I guess they chose the Olympic rink size when Mariucci was built so that the Twin Cities would have a larger capacity Olympic training facility. The decision to go with the large rink impacted capacity.

But seriously though, and I am not intending to boast or act arrogantly, what motivation is there to change the capacity when they are already making good money off the program, have other facilities that need upgrading/building more, and now the move to the BTHC has likely increased their revenue?

Not saying that in a "we're better than everyone" way, but in a "if it's not broken, why fix it" way.

Good gawd. I come back to this site after a couple years and the only song I can think of is Cinderella's "The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same"...:D

I would have to agree especially when describing Mariucci Arena. The olympic ice seems to favor the gopher style of play and in the last few years has played a part, IMHO, in their success next to the coaching and talent. The only thing I would change at Mariucci is that the cadaver dogs they used 3 years ago to check fans be taken away until the next season that the gophers are swept at home by UAA.
