Happy Birthday, Star Trek!

Re: Happy Birthday, Star Trek!

H. V. Kaltenborn

I had never heard of him. Based on his Wikipedia I am going to have to find some recordings, he sounds like a perfect mix of Edward R. Murrow and Lionel Trilling.

He may have been in "Earth vs. the Flying Saucers". Need to recheck IMDB.

Nope - TDTESS and Mr. Smith goes to Washington

The fun part of watching the original TDTESS was how much different DC was then from now.

I always enjoy the landing scene because the ship flies over the portion of the city where my dad grew up in the 30's (Atlantic Ave).

Here's a great shot of the DC streetcars in color. The accompanying article, about dating in DC in 1944, mentions the Crystal Swimming Pool at Glen Echo Park -- the very place a handsome lifeguard met a nursing student and had the temerity to ask her out leading inexorably to this post.

Not far from where I live is this

Take the Mrs. and the kids. Just watch out for the speed cameras which proliferate like liberals in Montgomery County.
