Re: Green Bay Packers 2011 season thread

Family night is on the 6th already.

Wow, this is a short pre-season/camp.

Kind of pleased with the free agency results so far. You knew that we were going to lose more than we kept, just by the nature of the salary cap and how many people we had to bring in to deal with injuries last year. The only one that we're losing that I'm really bummed about is Tauscher, but that's more for sentimental reasons than anything else. Bulaga is clearly ready to step in because... well... he's already done it.

Definitely glad to see Jones and Kuhn back.

Packers scrimmage on local, national TV
By Bob Wolfley of the Journal Sentinel

Aug. 5, 2011 11:40 a.m. | The Packers Family Night Scrimmage on Saturday night will be televised and carried throughout the state.

WLUK-TV (Channel 11) in Green Bay will originate a statewide telecast, which in the Milwaukee market will be carried on WITI-TV (Channel 6). The telecast begins at 6:30 p.m., when on-field football drills are scheduled to start.

The NFL Network will re-air the scrimmage telecast at 7 p.m. on Sunday. It will follow that with a show about the Packers' 2010 championship season, which starts at 9 p.m.

Re: Green Bay Packers 2011 season thread

I haven't paid much attention to the Packers this preseason because, well, it's the preseason. The season opens vs the Saints a week from yesterday. Here's a projected roster (http://host.madison.com/sports/foot...cle_06be88c4-d568-11e0-b277-001cc4c03286.html). I haven't seen enough of the games to comment on that, but it sounds good to me.

Of interest: 5 TE's and the comment about possibly looking to trade James Jones (I think they want to keep Gurley).

Not a thing of beauty on the defensive side, although I didn't expect them to dominate against the Saints. At least they came up big in the red zone a few times.

What was most sieve-like was Collinsworth tonight. What was up with him? He had no idea what he was talking about regarding rules or penalties.

How about Al Michaels incredibly unexciting call of Cobb's TD return? I was expecting another "He did...WHAT?" a la the Freeman catch vs minny.

Looks like Nick Collins should be ok:
By Nate Davis, USA TODAY
Updated 2h 8m ago

Packers Bro Bowl S Nick Collins was carted off the field today in Charlotte with a neck injury, but the team sent a strong signal afterward that he will recover.

The Packers released a statement saying:

"Nick Collins has normal feeling and complete movement in his extremities. As is standard protocol, he will be kept in the hospital overnight for observation. When he returns to Green Bay, he will undergo further testing and evaluation."

That was a scary moment.

I hope Jim Mora Jr. got Newton's phone number so they can go ahead and consummate the relationship.

That was ridiculous to listen to. Yes, he does have great numbers in two games so far, but isn't the point to win those games? And he was slobbering all over the Carolina D for a great job too. Sheesh.
