Re: Governor's Cup: Anchorage @ Fairbanks

I live on the west coast of Canada, so no. I do get out to NH once a year, but I'm only there for a weekend and it's to watch UNH. Although that being said I missed this years trip (it was this weekend actually) as I'm going to Phoenix for spring training.

Ha I noticed it say Victoria after I wrote that. Been up there a few times visiting family. Great place. I know that the second coming of JVR is playing with the Monarchs so wasn't sure if you had seem them this season since their leading scorer Alex Gacek is heading to Miami.

Ya, we have some nice recruits coming in the next few years too. Things are looking good, assuming they actually come to Durham to play and don't go north of the 49th.

Yea we've been lucky and haven't really had anyone decommit to go to majors, but then again we have only been good for the past 5 years in a row, before that it wasn't always that pretty in Oxford. Starting to get some good kids coming in. I know Mackenzie from Penticton this year was pressured to go majors. Glad to see him in red and white though :D

Re: Governor's Cup: Anchorage @ Fairbanks

B. Knelsen scores to give the Nanooks a 2-1 lead. Goal at 6:53 of the third.

Ya, the NHL needs to do something so these kids aren't skipping out on college. It will always be tough to compete with Major Jr. in Canada where the best players can earn pretty good dough.

It might be a good showing that most of the US Olympic team went the college route, that may help some kids stay down here and play some puck.

Water bottles are flying off the Seawolf bench, coach Shiyak is on the ice. Things aren't going well for UAA right now.

I hope so, being a huge fan of the college game and all. Major Jr. is still in many ways nothing but a goon show. The college game is so much better to watch, and I think prepares these guys better for the pros and life.

Coach Shiyak has been ejected with 11:54 left.

Re: Governor's Cup: Anchorage @ Fairbanks

D. Knelsen scores now, PP goal, to make it 3-1 Alaska. Goal at 8:21 of the third. It was a 5 on 3 PP, so Alaska will remain on the PP.

Victoria isn't too far out of Vancouver... Everyone over there going crazy for tomorrow?

It's a 15 minute plane ride or 90 minute ferry trip. Pretty much. This whole thing was really just a glorified hockey tourney for most. However, with Canada coming on strong the past few days, there's been a huge surge in short track speed skating and luge fans

Yea I had to hop on one of those small 10 people planes to make the 30 minute flight from SeaTac to Port Angeles before. A lot better than the close to 3 hour drive that trip takes. Hopped the ferry across to Victoria and hung out at some bars while the fam went to the museum and whatnot. I remember going to one a few times that had a great rooftop bar, and a sand volleyball court. No idea the name of it, was a couple years ago.

The Sticky Wicket. If you'd headed up the hill to the next intersection you would have seen the court house where I work.

Luka Vidmar scores for UAA to make it 3-2 Nanooks with 1:42 left in the game.

Re: Governor's Cup: Anchorage @ Fairbanks

Probably saw it, stopped at a few places and hoofed it all over the place up there.

Re: Governor's Cup: Anchorage @ Fairbanks

Game over and the Nanooks sweep the series and take home the Governor's Cup. Good game tonight, but UAA got killed by penalties in the third.

Nanooks 3 - Seawolves 1

It's not much to look at. Kinda looks like something Stalin would have built. Ugly non-descript building, especially considering Victoria is the capital of the province.
