Gopher Women's Hockey 2023-24

Gophers are still almost certainly a top 5-6 team in the country, but they're far enough back of OSU and Wisco that the preseason rankings are probably deserved. This year will be about seeing how much Murphy can do as the team's offensive catalyst, and where exactly in the national goaltending rankings Vetter slots in. Blue line worries me. Offensive depth worries me (less than the blue line though).

A lot of those there hardly penalties. She was so strong on her skates that when opposing players ran into her they bounced off her and fell down. Murphy is out there a hackin' away.

Badger fans never give up on this idea. Roque got called for a lot of penalties, because she committed a lot of penalties.

Some of us just have a better appreciation for the finer details in the game. Wink. All we really know about rodent fans is that they're kind of good at spelling a certain word. I just can't figure out the pattern that's behind it.

If you record the tunnelers doing their spelling thing, then play the recording backwards, the backmasked message is "Goldy is dead".

A Canadian junior team, even a pretty good Canadian junior team, is going to be in over their heads against any Division I opponent. And Durham West was. For one thing, during warmups and introductions they looked just way too small. But once the game started they had a few kids with pretty good size and lots of kids who could skate.

What they didn't have was anyone as good as Abby Murphy or Peyton Hemp.

Not a great game for the Gophers but it was an exhibition. They got a chance to skate against someone other than each other and it appeared that they escaped without anyone getting hurt.

It was fun to again be in a building with ice on the floor after a long hot summer.

It seems as though I must subscribe to FloHockey at least once per annum and this weekend was this year's weekend. For my 30 bucks I got a pretty good stream from a commercial (non-student) production. Somewhere along the way and annoyingly at a point beyond my control closed captions were introduced into the product.

The Gophers are interesting to watch, there is lots to see, there is so very, very much changed from last year.

I think they are a very good team, probably a top 3 or 4 team in the country. Oh, wait, that's what everyone thinks.

They have a ton of talent. As they go along they are going to have to figure out who scores and how. They are a top 4 or so team whether they figure it out or not. If they do figure it out they can aspire to be in the top tier of the top 4. That seems like a good goal for the Gophers for this season.

The Saint Thomas broadcast team seemed to always be trying to emphasize the positive for their overmatched team. And, OK, they DO have some really talented frosh. They have a chance to be pretty good. But for now they are not. At least not nearly as good as the Gophers.

Chapeau Abbey Murphy. Natural hat trick to lead off the game and then a couple of assists as well. Best player on the ice every time on the ice.

Ella Huber two goals. A Wethington goal assisted by a Wethington. Two goals through the five hole. A nice deflection. Snipes to the top corners.

Fun game to watch.

Not such a good game by the tunnelers today but a win is a win and a big assist to #7 (Sajevic) of the tommie bahamas in helping the tunnelers get going in the 3rd period.

All that is going on in this thread is the sound of crickets...

Anyone know the status of #6, #12 and #22? Are they just not dressing or are there injuries? 3 freshman you would have thought would have been in the lineup...

To this point, Klepinger's played two games (10/7 vs. RIT and yesterday vs. MNSU), Goettl's played one game (10/7), and Hemp the younger hasn't played since the exhbition. I would imagine they're just not dressing, and I'm not necessarily surprised except for Klepinger.

Looks like ya got a pretty decent d on the way, eh?

You could say that...

Chloe Primerano is going to have the same affect for the tunnelers that the sinners already have with Caroline Harvey. Best recruit for the tunnelers probably since Heise.

Also of note, is that this article talks about some other programs that are currently down a bit, getting some very high end recruits...The chihuahuas, Northleastern, and the beagles to be specific

Don't get carried away with yourselves, KK is a one of a kind player. I can't imagine another D with those kind of wheels being as relentlessly as aggressive as KK.
