Re: Global War on Terror 8 - Winter is Coming

Thanks for spawning Isis with your idiotic Iraq war George W Bush. Wish you were rotting in jail with Dick Cheney right now.

You know what the funny thing is? The pundits on Fox Snooze are blaming Obama. Congratulations, not only are you trying to point the finger at someone that hasn't had any decision making power in over seven years over a country that condemned his activity five years prior, you are now typing in a manner similar to Fox Snooze.

But of course everyone knows the most important thing in any issue is to know who is to blame... Perhaps we should blame global warming, or maybe Eric Cartman...

Re: Global War on Terror 8 - Winter is Coming

That didn't take long.

hey, it really bothers me that he has not been held accountable for the damage he caused. Sure, the middle east was already a mess (and the west has plenty of blame there, after all we actively cultivated religious fundamentalism so they would start a jihad against the Soviets in Afghanistan. Then we ****ed up by leaving a troop presence in Saudi Arabia and became the new target for the jihadists after Desert Storm). Bush took it to a whole new level of dysfunction though. Now Iraq is going to be a 50+ year dumpster fire and we're stuck with ISIS.

The biggest problem is we never ****ing learn. We keep doing the same **** over and over again.

And yet, despite the fact you want to continuously blame Bush, every single President within the last 45 years (yes, that includes Reagan) have led the funding and provoking of further actions you are condemning. Your attempt to spin tragic events for political gain has been exposed.

Don't kid yourself. W brought it to a whole new level.

Re: Global War on Terror 8 - Winter is Coming

Ironically, the guy who actually started this sh-tball rolling is the same guy who is responsible for the only lasting positive accomplishment. Carter brokered peace between Israel and Egypt which has been incalculably helpful. But he also pioneered the Carter Doctrine, where we essentially extend the Monroe Doctrine to the Middle Eastern oil fields and declare that we have a right to and will use our military there whenever we feel our oil supply is in danger.

Given that North America is now a net exporter of oil, we should formally reject the Carter Doctrine. We can still guarantee defense to our friends through alliances, but we shouldn't be putting the treasure and troops of America on the line to protect Exxon's bottom line.

It wouldn't hurt for Cheney to cool his heels in an international court standing against a war crimes prosecution, either. I know the rules are we're not supposed to care when a cabal of rich guys murders a hundred thousand regular people as long as they're not white, but much like in the US itself, those rules are changing. Our plutes can't just use the third world as chess pieces anymore. Clear some space on the Heritage and Hoover fainting couches and start trucking the neocons to prison.

He isnt wrong.

not wrong but definitely incomplete. After the surge, Iraq was stable and the Sunnis and Shias were actually cooperating at the beginning of 2009. Both Bush and his successor contributed plenty to this mess.

sure. we could have occupied Iraq forever. No one wanted that though.

How about we blame the person that got us that mess in the first place?

Talk less. Read more.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: In February 2004, you already had Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in your hands -- he was imprisoned in in a military camp, but got cleared later as harmless by a US military commission. How could that fatal mistake happen?

Flynn: We were too dumb. We didn't understand who we had there at that moment. When 9/11 occurred, all the emotions took over, and our response was, "Where did those ******** come from? Let's go kill them. Let's go get them." Instead of asking why they attacked us, we asked where they came from. Then we strategically marched in the wrong direction.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: The US invaded Iraq even though Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11.

Flynn: First we went to Afghanistan, where al-Qaida was based. Then we went into Iraq. Instead of asking ourselves why the phenomenon of terror occurred, we were looking for locations. This is a major lesson we must learn in order not to make the same mistakes again.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: The Islamic State wouldn't be where it is now without the fall of Baghdad. Do you regret ...

Flynn: ... yes, absolutely ...

SPIEGEL ONLINE: ... the Iraq war?

Flynn: It was huge error. As brutal as Saddam Hussein was, it was a mistake to just eliminate him. The same is true for Moammar Gadhafi and for Libya, which is now a failed state. The historic lesson is that it was a strategic failure to go into Iraq. History will not be and should not be kind with that decision.

And for that matter, when Obama pulled out of Iraq he was following the agreement that Dubya signed.

The current administration has been playing whack-a-mole with these idiots, but they were created by the guy people wanted to have a beer with. A $3T, 100k life beer. And counting.

The Surge was a fraud. Everyone knew as soon as we left an area it would fall back into madness. Dubya's successor is not to blame for this no matter how much you pretend he is.
