Ginding away- stop putting sand in my oil... Part 4

Re: Ginding away- stop putting sand in my oil... Part 4

Our school district has cut admins and spends way under the state avg. 600 kid school- principal. No vice principal, counselor or other admin. Nightmare. Latest stats after calculating out the last yrs budget- we are now the rock bottom of the state in spending per pupil. The slums of Boston do better than we do. :( No words. We are a ghetto with farms.

And on the verge of losing accredidation.... It is really making me question moving back to the town that I grew up in. Sad really.

Re: Ginding away- stop putting sand in my oil... Part 4

I work in Boston and everyday when I go home, there are people at the corner begging for change. No problem with that. My problem is when the guy stands there with his sign claiming he's trying to support his two daughters and he swears to God he's telling the truth... then he pulls out his iPhone and makes a call. Really... an iPhone? Sorry, but my change will go elsewhere.

Why do you hate the children?

Anytime you hear "It's for the children" it usually means bad legislation that could only pass by tugging at the heartstrings of the electorate.

Plus school elections are poorly attended with usually only the activists voting. The vocal minority then sets the tone and taxbase for the rest of the municipality.

In all seriousness I would not move here if you plan on owning the house or having a family. House values are down and the town 'leadership' is so corrupt it is frightening. They are out of control and had the gonads to tell us the town didn't know what was best for it when we voted at town meeting. Apparently it is not against the law to go against what the town voted for at TM and refuse to do what they were instructed. Who ever heard of that?

It will take an act of God to make a difference before at least 5-10 yrs. Too many townies baa like sheep and are more worried about affording their coffee than whether the schools will suck. If this doesn't pass I would be surprised if we aren't put into receivership like Lawrence. We can't seem to get our head out of our collective a55 to do anything on our own and actively work in the opposite direction. The JHS has been on warning for at least 5 yrs and with the HS losing accred I can't see how the State does not step in. There are already people who are ready to file class action lawsuits if this doesn't pass. (one of the few times I think I would be excited to see someone sue)

I knew we were bad but really believed that no govt would have enough balls to let it get this bad. Now when people ask where we come from it is painful to see their reaction. It mirrors my own. Embarrassed and feel a total fool everytime I have to admit to where I live. :(

Unfortunately this is the line of 'reasoning' people have been using long enough here that we have a bunch of people that reflexively say no to any sort of money for the schools.

GRR. This school system grinds my gears (even more than before which I thought was impossible!!) HS is being renovated. My kid has been volunteering time to move stuff around all summer. He has also been at practice 3 days a week all summer. Just found out by accident, reading a post on FB, that there are a limited amt of parking passes available, only for Srs and not enough for everyone. There has been no notification, no post on the school website, nothing mentioned at PTO last yr. Basically they are doing it on the QT. My kid drives himself and another kid to school and at least 2 kids home every day. None of them have forked over the 200$ for a bus pass (not to mention the bus routes are now set). Before he drove we made sure to work out our schedules so we would be able to drive him. We haven't done that and can't change things at this late date. There are at least 30 posts so far about parents who had no idea about this, most of us with kids who do sports or after school stuff (no late buses available). There is going to be bloodshed in our town before the end of the yr!

Does a drunk monkey run your school system?

Well, nigh on close. The stupidintendent was the SPED director here- was a true F up and we got sued, losing us a bunch of money. Then he went to another town. They got sued, lost them a bunch of money. Then he interviewed for the Stupidintendent job here with some other candidates. People stood in a line to make comment on what an idiot he was. The steering committee (community and school people) recommended against him but the School Committee hired him using some nefarious tactics that people considered going to court over. The HS principal is meh but also has to deal with this dude instructing him to not reveal things because a fait accompli is harder to protest than if you discuss things first. My whining on here isn't even the tip of the iceburg of how completely ehf-ed up things have become in 5 short years.

Re: Ginding away- stop putting sand in my oil... Part 4

I have gotten several recruiters calling me about jobs. That part is good so I hope that keeps up. The part bugging me is they are all so freakin' far away that it will require relocation. Closest one so far was 2+ hours away. What part of unwilling to relocate are they not understading?

It's interesting that so many of them are even contacting you. Most recruiters will not waste time calling outside of the immediate region, unless you're in a field where demand is high, but local candidates are scarce.

Re: Ginding away- stop putting sand in my oil... Part 4

As my uncle, by far the best businessman in our family, has instructed me many times: Everything is for sale and every term is negotiable.

If you're the perfect candidate for a job, the recruiter would be remiss in not contacting you regardless of what your profile says about relocation. Just learn what you can from those calls (do you see a pattern of what kind of jobs or companies they're coming from, etc?), use that info to help you refine your search where you *are* looking, and move on.

Re: Ginding away- stop putting sand in my oil... Part 4

I got a recruiting call from one of my company's competitors a few weeks ago, would have required relocation about 5 hours away. I don't even have my profile, resume, etc. posted anywhere, except for a barebones account on LinkedIn. Yet, they found my work phone number, which is definitely not posted on LinkedIn or anywhere else.

Likely one of your colleagues, suppliers or the like gave it out.

Magically there are now 70 spots but...the Junior parents are all now on complaining that they suddenly can't get a tag. what an effff up

Too bad you can't vote to zero out his salary in the school budget elections.

You need somebody to dig up the facts (dirt) on the Supy and have a local newspaper publish the stuff, including the nefarious hiring process. School Boards hate being made to look like fools in the press.

Failing that, you need a reform slate to run for the school board and oust the current board.

It was sort of in the paper but the paper is in the Selectmens' pockets. The reform slate is up and running. They got rid of one already. Next Spring- bring out the broom!

Yeah, that happened to me once. Calling me at work and you can't direct dial me so it went through the receptionist. Not thrilled about that one at all. I'm happy to field calls on my cell and hope they keep coming, just a little closer to home.

Re: Ginding away- stop putting sand in my oil... Part 4

Need to rant before my head asplodes!! Ignorant people gind my gears. Having to keep my cool and not say exactly what I think is killing me. I work in town and others who have spoken out in a completely rational manner have had their reputations damaged beyond repair. I have to 'behave' If I don't stroke out I should be good for another couple of decades.

It is amazing the level of willful ignorance that can be concentrated in a small area of square mileage. As Mr les says there are people who are dumb as posts and those who are dumb as rails. The ones dumb as rails usually rely on the posts to tell them what to do. There are a lot of rails here who are proud to be ignorant because that is what people are like in this town. Only elitist blow-ins think we should not accept the way things should be. If that is elitist, tattoo it on my forehead!

We have morally corrupt people in leadership roles, calling citizens names and falsely accusing them of all sorts of things and having a cult of applauding groupies egging them on. The 'groupies' flip the bird to little children who are with their parents holding signs, yell obscenities at them, even get out of the car to do so. They threaten people if they speak out and then say the other side is doing all sorts of improbable things. They have their fingers in all of the media outlets and have coordinated to publish/broadcast all sorts of false info that is not vetted and never refuted even when proven wrong. It is mind boggling and very scary to know this sort of thing can happen in a democracy. If I didn't see it first hand I would think this was something the National Enquirer made up. This crap is supposed to happen in big cities/ totalitarian countries, not in little semi-rural towns.

Some guy is telling us our town needs fiscal responsibility- we shouldn't raise the tax to pay for school. He knows they are in trouble. He acknowledges we are not last in the state for spending but it costs too much to fix and he can't afford it! He has not paid his mortgage this month because he had to buy his kid Aero and Hollister clothes so she felt like she fit in and shouldn't have to do without. The poor kid feels left out because she does not have an iPhone. He can't make her wear clothes from Wal-Mart too. (yes he really posted this  ) Yep - teach your kid to live beyond your means, that clothes are more important than character. It is more important than paying for the roof over your head. The poor kid doesn't have a chance, *head desk* This type of person should not be allowed to pass his genetic matter on. There are people agreeing with this logic- it is a perfect example of why we shouldn't pass the measure.

Then we have the well off people who say they are protecting the poor who need a spokesman. They threaten the taxes will go up by 1000$. Some enterprising soul researched it and there is only one house who would see that increase- guess who is helping lead the charge... TO have a house worth that much here you have to be rolling in it. Too bad he couldn't take all the $ he is spending to spread vitriol and buy some textbooks. They have a huge RV that's been parking in various parts of town with VOTE NO signs all over it. The HS kids are all over that one on instagram wanting to know how they can afford an RV and stand in front of people crying poormouth with a straight face and other impolite things to that effect

My kid asked me why nothing is done about them doing illegal things, everyone knows it and nothing happens. He lists off all this stuff- they are allowed to lie about the school having things it doesn't, call people names, not follow the laws for a political mailing (they accused the other side of the same thing- found false), failed to file documents for financial disclosure (excuse- the guy was too busy because his phone was ringing off the hook with people who wanted him to bring them signs- pul-eeeeze!), stealing signs, destroying them on private property (Mum, why doesn't the paper report that? they only report one side). These people are town leaders- selectmen and former selectmen. He wants to know how they ever got elected and stayed elected.

Talk about being at a loss. Can't say what I really think- they should drop them into the middle of the HS and let the kids at them like Lord of the Flies. The only thing I could come up with is the law is only as good as those who enforce it. You don't need to be qualified or intelligent, you don't even have to do what you promised to get elected. You just have to convince people to vote for you. The recourse we have is to vote them out. This is not immediate enough for him, or his friends. They want to see these folks embarrassed and sent up the river. I do too but know better. It will never happen.

They don't check ID when you vote. I imagine there will be shenanigans. If they lose I predict a claim of voter fraud. I want out of this petty little town so bad I can taste it.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Phew I feel better now. I needed a verbal vomit. The not being able to say what I think in a non-PC way is killing me.

Re: Ginding away- stop putting sand in my oil... Part 4

I think I'd be an outcast in that town on the first day. And honestly, I wouldn't give a f*.

Well, I work in it as well as live in it. The people who grew up here think this is normal. Some of the people are my patients. Ethics suck. Let me tell you it is challenging to be professional. There is no medication for stupid.

I don't want to live here. Very seriously. Mr grew up here and thinks I am not serious. The only saving grace is some of these people are older than me. Maybe they will all hurry up and either die off or go live in assisted living somewhere far away. (oops, did I just say that?....)
