I just had a notorious throat clearer in my cube for 20 minutes (approx. 35 throat clears during that time) and I didn't strangle her. I believe I deserve a ****ing medal.

I should have had her ask her questions using hand signals, so I didn't have to take off my headphones. Next time!

Dealing with my 4 brothers for getting my mother's estate settled, and a couple of the wives who are adding flames to it all - especially the one. On top of that, giving your parent a gift with the stated claim that you're going to get it when said parent passes, that's just down right pathetic and obnoxious to me. Lastly, because my mother lived with me, I have possession of all the items, so it's somehow fallen to me to mete out who gets what. All of it's grinding my gears independently, and it's all adding up to collective giant grind.

Here's an idea that some people I know have tried and it worked out really well for them. On the other hand, when my wife's dad died, her brother did NOT follow it and all he did was inflame past grievances.

Step one: Take all the cash in the estate and divide it equally among all heirs (assuming the will says that; if not, you may need to adjust this idea a little).
Step two: have an auction of all the stuff: each heir gets to bid on each item. Whoever wants something the most, bids the most. you can bid a lot on a few items or a little on a lot of items, whatever.
Step three: whatever cash flowed back during the auction, divide it up again.

This way, you don't have to decide who gets what, everyone decides on their own how much they want something.


(hmm. I'm not quite sure how they conducted the auction as far as technical details but I'll bet there is real good article on line somewhere...)

We live in an area that has a number of narrow, winding, two-lane roads that often have utility poles and great big rocks right along the edge of the road. There are quite a few drivers around here who totally ignore the center line, drifting way over into the lane that would hold oncoming traffic.

This lazy, casual recklessness leads to a few near misses. It really angers me quite a bit when I'm nearly run into head on by someone in my lane heading right at me. Cannot swerve to avoid.

Certainly racism is a terrible thing.

What really grinds my gears big-time is that many of the people who say they deplore racism are also perfectly comfortable with anti-Semitism.

My dad is grinding my gears right now. The Fifth-Third River Bank Run 25K (15.5 miles) is next week, and every time I bring up the subject of post-race planning, he changes the subject or avoids me. This is important because he's driving, and I don't want to wander around downtown Grand Rapids looking for him. Seriously, how hard is it to agree to meet at a local Starbucks or Biggby after the race is over?
