Re: Gear Grinding 8: I Got A Lot Of Problems With You People!

So.. remember this thing?

I found out last week you get ZERO credit for any workouts, steps or activities, unless you have a digital activity tracker, like a Fitbit.

So even if I do every single thing on their list (and believe me, not one person on the planet is going to do THAT), I STILL wouldn't get the premium discount, because I don't own a digital device.

I'd look into getting a digital thing if it qualifies for a tax-write-off.

I am not attaching another part of my life to a digital device. It's intrusive, unnecessary and the principle bothers me.

Exhibit A They don't really want to motivate you. They want to say they do and then put up multiple barriers for you to achieve that have nothing to do with a goal. I hate insurance companies.

Exactly. If their goal is truly to offer a discount to the "healthy" people that aren't costing them more money in insurance, they are failing. If their goal is to offer a discount to significantly fewer people - bingo. This has nothing to do with health.

This. My biometric information is none of my employer's business. Currently, I receive about a 10% discount just for getting an annual physical (which they fully cover, since it is preventative care), regardless of the results. If they were to change it so that I'd have to jump through stupid hoops like getting a Fitbit and reporting the data over time, I'd take the increase.

Don't get me wrong, *I* wouldn't do it either. Just saying it's an option.

Mistake people make is believing the silly ads saying they are trying to promote health. This is never their goal. They are trying to maximize profit. It is that simple. Anything they can do to decrease cash flow out or increase cash flow in they will do it. The BS they try to sell does a great job of muddying the waters. Just like people who believe the BS the politicians sell, there are just enough 'believers' who like getting a gold star for compliance.

this is more of a w-tee-eff... I got an email from a recruiter who "saw" my resume at an "online job board" (i.e. LinkedIn), offering me a contractor job (they're looking for 3-5 years experience).... at the company I've worked at for the past 19 years. ohhhhh, let me think about it..... :p

More close to home, people who call SMEs "Smees"

As if they were a character from Peter Pan.

Everyone in my office pronounces acronyms like they're actual words. I'm as guilty as the next, especially when the PM has his/her PMP cert listed in their email signature line.

Acronyms are words. SCUBA
Initialisms are just just initials. SME

Stein in German is pronounced "Shtine", written for our hukt on fonix crowd, in English.

Pittsburgh. Most of my distant relatives say it that way.

I say "shtine."

Philly folk also say "wooter," not "water."

As for Dilly Dilly, it was funny for about a week, and the one time at Old Chicago (the Vikings' London game) where it was about 9am, bar was packed, the commercial came on, and the whole bar shouted it along with the commercial for gits and shiggles.

Re: Gear Grinding 8: I Got A Lot Of Problems With You People!

I’m done with Cub’s produce department. It’s awful.

There isn’t an edible avocado in the store and it’s the biggest avocado week of the year. And that’s just the final straw. The garlic has been bland for months and most of it is already sprouting by the time it gets to the store. The leafy greens are overwatered and gross. The tomatoes are bland. The lettuce mix brand they’ve switched to is mediocre. The limes are often... weird; I don’t even know how to explain that one. The onions... the ****ing onions are the worst. Most are already bruised and starting to get nasty around the bruise. And there are like five good ones left for customers to fight over.

The lone bright spot are the carrots. Those are good. But that’s literally it.

I just can’t believe that someone is actually in charge of that department. Because they absolutely don’t care about quality. And this was supposed to be Cub’s flagship store.
