Gear Grinding 8: I Got A Lot Of Problems With You People!

Re: Gear Grinding 8: I Got A Lot Of Problems With You People!

That'll be a good thing. I visit the sick in the hospital one day a month (yesterday was my day). I met up with a lady who came in to the ER Friday in blinding back pain (she slipped a disk). They fixed that but she reacted to something they gave her that the skin on the tops of both feet blistered and sloughed off in like 24 hours and had other large areas that look like 2nd degree burns. Her body is more "ink outline" of other discolored regions than not.
Stevens Johnson syndrome. NASTY!

A few different reasons. She was on them for trauma (long drawn out death of her best friend and her brother dying) and was on a pretty heavy dose. It has been almost 5 years and she is in a much better place now and the drugs are acting more as a hindrance than they are to helping her. Also, because they are pretty heavy duty they have some bad health related side effects that are causing way more issues than they are solving and she could deal with it before but now she just cant.

Her doctor wanted her to do this like a year ago but she put it off out of fear of the side effects of the withdrawal. (plus she quit smoking around then and didnt want double issues) To put it in perspective she takes 3 pills a day for her prescription...the recommended way to ween is to cut out 1 pill. She did that and no joke it took less than 24 hours for the withdrawal to kick in. And there is nothing they can do to take the edge off.

She is better today than she was yesterday and by the end of the week she should be back to normal. I am not going to be around much this week which is a blessing for her cause sometimes I can be a pain ;) :D
when people struggled like this I used to have them try to take liquid and decrease the dose by a ml at a time* or if it was splitable then decrease by very small increments. Some people are super sensitive and coming off can feel like sh1t- flu like, dizzy, irritable, physically ill. I would liken it to having a cast on a limb and then expecting to take it off and have the limb be fine. Doesn't happen. It takes awhile for the body's systems to wake up and react like they should.

Smart to wait til after the smoking thing.

*I used to do this to start sensitive people and take them off. The GPs used to say I was nuts but it worked and one of the psychiatrists called me brilliant :o so there must have been something to it.

Then again, you could be a support through this also. Please look out for this person. I've witnessed a transition like this turn ugly (i.e. had to bring person into ER).

Oh I know, it is just the joke we tell to make her laugh. :)

In the next few yrs they are going to be prescribing meds based on genetic testing of metabolic pathways. (so fiiiiiinalllly we won't need to start something, tell people to wait 6-8 weeks and hope you hit the right one)

How much is that testing going to cost? ;)

Well, if you think of it, it will be much more cost effective than dicking around and hoping to make the correct educated guess. Of course that is logical so they probably won't cover it until they are sued.

That ****ing sucks. Sorry to hear that.

Any recourse?

No. Amazon would refund I think, but most sellers won’t. Filed a police report.
and yes now all my packages will be held at ups or fed ex location

Amazon is now offering a service where you place a digital lock on your door, and the delivery man will drop off your package inside your front door. I'm not sure that idea's any better - you have to TRUST that Amazon has done some really solid background checks, not TSA background checks. And it's only available in certain cities.

It happens a lot in Minneapolis this time of year. I might put out a box on my front step full of dog poop with a note inside.

I've seen ads on TV with a wireless doorbell/camera/speaker that supposedly wakes up your remote device and you can scare off the robber.

However, most devices have a lag time so the thief is long gone before you get notified.

A few people in my hood did that last year and posted the videos of the person stealing packages.
These *******s follow the delivery trucks around. I hate people.
And as much as I hate ups, their app is great and having all packages sent to a ups store now was a five second breeze. Fed ex on the other hand..

Re: Gear Grinding 8: I Got A Lot Of Problems With You People!

Four hours ago I started working from home. A quick BCP test with a "small" component upgrade for some Java apps. The BCP test worked fine, small hiccup that was solved quickly enough. Now the prod redeployment is taking forever because they forgot half the components in the automated install package. Now two devs are trying to fix it on the fly...

Did I mention that this app handles messaging for applications that process multiple billions of dollars each day? Tomorrow looks to be even more fun with this issue.

Ahhhhhh, no.

I already think they've gone too far with their proposed "drone delivery".

I won't sign up for it either. I just don't want to give however many people access to my home. If I'm not there, nobody is.

The next thing you know, you'll be getting messages like, "We noticed that some of your underwear is looking a little ragged"
