I only have brussels to get and plant. The rest has been in for a couple of weeks.

Snap peas broke the surface yesterday. Waiting on the carrots, but expect them at any moment.

Was gonna do just 4 tomato plants as we had more than we could use last year, ended up with 6 - of course. Still have like 20 quarts from last summer. :eek: Did an Early Girl, Better Boy, Big Boy, Brandywine, Pineapple (heirloom) and a Golden Boy.

Was gonna do just 1 hot pepper, did 4. Again, of course. Did Mucho Nacho, Garden Salsa, Early Jalapeno and a Cowhorn (Bullhorn?).

Did some green peppers, masai green beans and a couple of types of cuccs.

Also added strawberries.


Good food is coming!

Strawberries- Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! they have gotten into everything! everywhere!

We have one little strawberry plant that's in a hanging pot and it has given us a handful of strawberries so far, though with the summer heat coming on, I'll probably try to find a place on the north side of the house to hang it so it'll have a chance of making it through the summer. Most everything else is winding down, though the asparagus are getting bigger, so we should start harvesting in a year or so if the little guy doesn't pull them out!

My lawn is finally starting to green up. There were a few patches that didn't do so hot and now they're finally catching up. I've also decided to nuke my flower beds and start over.

To prevent the problem you mentioned earlier, I'd suggest you install edging around the flower beds. Edging extends a few inches below the surface and prevents plants that spread by underground roots (like grass and mint) from invading the flower bed.

Gardening like a maniac for the last few weeks. Hours. Still haven't gotten to 3 of the gardens. I have come to the conclusion I have a lot of gardens!! A Lot.

I should have posted this earlier too.

I completely nuked my front garden. I tried saving a few of the daffodils and the mums. We'll see if those survive.

I'll post pictures of the new garden when it's in place.

Done planting. Cantaloupe, red peppers, cucumbers, dill, two kinds of basil, cilantro and some kind of decorative cabbage. Impatiens, lobelia, cosmos, portaluca, dahlias, fuschia, and violas for flowers.

I also fertilized with some fish emulsion (blech) and used Purple Cow compost on the garden.

My strawberries have a bunch of flowers and I saw a bee on them yesterday. I really think this is the year. :)

I never got purple tulips this year (and only a few red) - cold snap hit at the wrong time.

We finished planting this weekend. Potatoes, tomatoes, (20 plants) peppers, sweet corn; pole and bush beans (green, yellow, and purple); onions; broccoli; and carrots. We replanted the Raspberries; they probably won't do well this year but were being choked out by the crabgrass and dandelions. We planted 50 new strawberry plants in the raised garden and they look really good. We had an inch or so of rain today and that will help. The cherry tree will be a little less than last year, but we don't really need 2 tons of cherries. The hops, black and red currants, and blackberries also look good. We've had a dozen or so great asparagus meals so far. MUCH better than last year.

Edit: Oh by the way, my wife does the flowers and we did a bunch of that also this weekend.

Got the veggie garden in last week. 4 plants of cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, zuchinni and 1 cucumber plant. May not seem like much, but it is double my last veggie garden (which was just cherry tomatoes and bell peppers).

I need to spend a day on my front garden. I might just take everything out except the tulips. I love those tulips. Everything else is bleh or weed. Was going to plant begonias out front, but someone stole them off my porch. :(

We used the long weekend to move almost all the plants started inside in peat pots outside into the vegetable garden. I may have posted this earlier, the pots made from compressed manure might sound great in theory .... in practice we were very glad we could set them up on the inside front porch so that the odor did not spread to the rest of the house!

Yesterday there was a heavy rain in the forecast. In February or so we start saving gallon milk containers, the semi-translucent plastic kind. After you cut off the bottom, they cover the young plants quite nicely. We put one over each plant when big storms are predicted, it saves them from being pounded into the mud.

Tried planting some melons this year.

Already harvested a few radishes. the peas are a bit laggard compared to earlier years. Strawberries in full blossom, just spread out the bird netting.

We just put out the netting on the grape vines, as they are ripening quickly. Caught (and squashed) a skeletonizer that was starting to go after the grape leaves.

Hit 105 over the weekend, so most of the garden is fading fast. But we have been getting a good harvest of apples off our tree, and we have a good number of tangerines coming along and a handful of lemons. Plus a small number of peaches that should be ready in the next month or so. I built a screen structure over the peach tree, as it struggles with the summer heat and sun.

Japanese beetles LOVE grape plants. Which is one of many reasons I think I'm going to kill my grape plant this summer.

Just planted tomatoes, might be a waste of time if the hornworm made it thru this winter. They say you can kill the eggs? cocoon? by rototilling so I hope I got them but if not hopefully I see them before they devastate my crop. Now I need to get beans planted and some squash. We're at least 2 weeks late up here, it was 42 and raining in where I was weds. so I'm in no hurry to get garden in. We had a frost advisory last night but it was in the 40s here.

I used the wally method to plant my beans, squash, cukes and zukes. Last yr the compost made things produce like mad!

:) I used it today also. Planted many hills of squash, cukes, Zukes etc. It works better for me than planting stuff I started inside. Seems like every time I do that they just die after it rains for 40 days and 40 nights. The seeds come up anyway.
