Game of Thrones - Season 4: Who Is Jon Snow?

Re: Game of Thrones - Season 4: Who Is Jon Snow?

You should stick to the AV Club, they have a review from the perspective of people who have read the books, and one from the newbie perspective and they work hard to keep book spoilers out of the comments of the newbie review.

AV Club is, IMO, probably the best place to go for a lot of entertainment-related things. But that goes double for their separate Game of Thrones reviews.

Re: Game of Thrones - Season 4: Who Is Jon Snow?

I don't have HBO, but based on the reviews I've been seeing, I'm shocked that this is happening: (SPOILERS)
People seem to have guessed that the Queen of Thorns is involved, but no one is suspecting Littlefinger? I know he isn't involved yet - poor poor Kevan Lannister - but no one is suspecting Varys either? The Spider is all over the place and he's actively involved in Tyrion's eventual escape.

I do enjoy Tyrion and Hodor is Hodortastic, but the Queen of Thorns might be my new favorite character. Her handling of Tywin alone is magnificent.

I still like this thing some guy posted a couple years ago (spoilers through ADWD if you're trying to avoid it)

Wow, this is quite something.
The best part was when the grandmother told Sansa how awful it was that Robb was killed at a wedding.

Definitely.

The episode re-aired last night. I watched for it, but didn't see the grab you mentioned, and couldn't see any missing after the camera went back to a straight on shot of the objects in question. I did, however, hear a clink in the the background noise after the stated deed, however.

Oh, also, I think it's cool that Sigur Ros recorded a version of "Rains of Castamere" in addition to the version recorded by The National last year, and especially enjoyed that they appeared on the show as the musicians performing at the wedding.

And in developments OUTSIDE the Red Keep ... I'd like to see what form of payback Yara Greyjoy gives Ramsay (Bolton's bast ard) Snow - though Theon's always grated on me & there isn't much left of him - heh. I'm also piecing together where Bran figures out where he's got to go.

Re: Game of Thrones - Season 4: Who Is Jon Snow?

All of those happy, warm feelings the fans were building up towards Ser Jamie, I don't think they're necessarily still there anymore. Otherwise I'd say it was a pretty uneventful hour, yet clearly necessary for building the story.

Re: Game of Thrones - Season 4: Who Is Jon Snow?

Jaime had an interesting turn.

I'm curious to know how other book readers felt about that. (I don't think it's as much of a departure as some might think).

Re: Game of Thrones - Season 4: Who Is Jon Snow?

The book version used "prettier" language than the TV show, but it was otherwise the same, IMO.

Re: Game of Thrones - Season 4: Who Is Jon Snow?

Agreed. The only things that were notably different were A- the timing of Jaimes return and B- that Cersei didn't eventually acquiesce (or at least wasn't emphatic in eventually consenting).

I totally get how the former changed the dynamic a bit, but I do need to see how the rest of this plot line plays out before I get too concerned about the latter.

In the book and the show, it all just shows how much of his honor he's willing to... uh... throw out the window once his list for Cersei takes over. If the episode titles are any indication, I think this will be resolved fairly soon.

Re: Game of Thrones - Season 4: Who Is Jon Snow?

The turn that Ser Jamie took was disappointing. Right there beside his dead brother - bam! And the body was barely cold ... d@mn

His brother is still alive, but in the dungeon as the person accused for killing King Joffrey, Ser Jaime's son/nephew (crazy southerners).
