Friday March 5th Scores, Rants, Raves, etc...

Re: Friday March 5th Scores, Rants, Raves, etc...

Who do I think will win: Babson: Who would I rather see win: Skidmore.

What did you think about the ECAC Awards they announced today? I thought that Zach should have been named to the 1st Team All-ECAC.

Re: Friday March 5th Scores, Rants, Raves, etc...

The refs were brutal - and NEC was NEC - they play ugly. I intensely dislike NEC.

and that goal wave-off was a crock, we were sitting right there, I have NO clue what the ref saw it hit......but the outcome was what it needed to be, I just hope the Cadets are not too banged up.

From a USM perspective: I think they got it right...I like that they gave props to Ryan Boucher on the rookie team...He is going to be a good one: he played hurt most of the year and when he is right he can be a force...

What do you expect from the ECAC? The officials in the ECAC are like a box of chocolates, you never know who or what you are going to get from night to night in this league.

I am not saying that all the officials are inconsistent, but it is very clear that the ECAC doesn't seem to place the good officials in the big games. Earlier this year I thought they missed the boat when they assigned the crew for the USM-NEC match-up in Gorham earlier in the season. You'd think they would have a veteran crew work a game that is traditionally very physical and filled with emotional play.

Way to go Wick. I loved the penalty kill where Tallent and Cotnoir broke their sticks and played over a minute PK and prevented many shots from hitting Klinger, who stopped the 4 or 5 that got past his team mates. Just awesome:D However, I know NEC is dirty, but man, we have to stay out of the box:(

As often happens, we ended up playing into their game. I don't know if you saw it at the end of the game, but somebody had the presence of mind to grab ahold of Steve Schroeder to keep him from going after an NEC player with about 5 secs left. We didn't want to have him sitting tomorrow. Did you see McShane having a "discussion" with O'Brien after the handshake? Mike was not happy, but kept it buttoned until after.

Oh yeah, about the refs, whats up with the hit from behind by NEC on Cotnoir that the refs refused to see? I thought that was a call many refs would have called automatically this season, as seen in many games this year. Could it be the rules change when you are playing a tourney game against Norwich (or any other 1st place team)? Do the underdogs get an extra man on the ice dressed in a zebra suit?

Re: Friday March 5th Scores, Rants, Raves, etc...

Well, I got blasted from a certain poster for saying the game would be closer than people think...Be careful, rrgor (or whatever) for come for blood if you say Norwich didn't just walk over NEC...

Give credit where credit is due, it was a close game, you called it. NEC is tough, I knew that (remember, I got blasted also).

Re: Friday March 5th Scores, Rants, Raves, etc...

That penalty kill with the two broken sticks was a classic- and, while there were some odd 'missed' calls against NEC, we saw at least two ugly ones that could have been called on the Cadets and weren't - the one I was wondering about was what looked like the NEC goalie pounding on a Cadet face down on the ice and no call on him - anyone get a decent look at that? We were down the other end so our view was not clear -

O'Brien has his own set of rules, which says favor the underdog and Silva doesn't make many calls either way. The hit on Cotnoir was right in front of O'Brien, who put the whistle in his mouth, and then said nah...

I saw that and I couldn't believe it. I am not sure it was a goalie doing the hitting cuz it looked like a regular hockey glove, not a goalie glove. And just to clarify, because you were talking about "two ugly ones that could have been called on the Cadets and weren't-" the instance you were referring to was the NEC goalie/player hitting a Norwich player down on the ice. I am sure there were some calls missed against Norwich, and I do support the calls made against Norwich, we retaliated and got caught in 4 out of the 5 penalties called. The 5th penalty was a smart one, a trip from behind on Chad Anderson (I think it was him) that prevented a play from turning into a two on 0 break. And no, not a penalty shot penalty. But, I think the most blatant penalties missed were committed by NEC. And the called back goal was just awful.
