Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Awesome job, Bob. Congrats.

I've decided to take up a few 5Ks, including one on my birthday. Here's my list.

July 19: Tibbetts Point Run (Cape Vincent, NY)
Sept. 12: Run for Recovery (Watertown, NY)
Oct. 18: Harvest Run 2015 (Adams, NY)

Thinking about also doing the Turkey Day run this Thanksgiving as well. I've got the bug.

And as long as you keep training, you'll do better each and every time.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Today, I am telling the Muskegon YMCA to "shut up and take my money" for swim lessons.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Swim lessons begin on July 12, which means I have to figure out how to do more than doggy paddle before Tri Del Sol on July 18.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

And until I can get to therapy, I do possess a couple of yoga DVDs that target my core and buns. I'm going to target the injured area.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

So the wife and I decided to spend some money in an effort to motivate ourselves. Both of us got Fitbits, and we also bought the Fitbit scale.

I'm.... a lot fatter than I thought I was. :(

I don't need a fitbit to tell me how fat I am. I have a conventional scale and mirror to tell me that.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Seaway Run Half-Marathon: 2:22:54. Unlike last year, where I got no sleep the night before and overtrained on top of that, I actually did okay, even with the sciatica.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

According to my physical therapist, my muscles are very tight in my back and hips. So I go back on Tuesday.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Had a 3 day Mayo executive check up. Saw about 11 different specialists, including a heart specialist, a fitness specialist and 2 diet specialists. My current regiment is elliptical machine for 20 mn or so with a heart rate to 180...and general main body core work for about 20 mn. Its been working stellar...but that's for someone with my exact bloods and physical specifications.

I want to ask...does your insurance cover that? I'm serious...I think I have pretty *ing good insurance, probably elite for a Michigan resident - a PPO with no paycheck deductions, $0 preventative care, $10 office visit copays, $15 generic meds, and $1250 OOP maximums, whether it's a GP, specialist, urgent care, or hospital stay.

One of the things I'm working on: drinking more water, especially with the heat coming on. I drink plenty of coffee in the morning, but in the afternoon, my water intake is lacking.

Keep in mind that drinking coffee isn't necessarily a positive hydration-wise and may actually be a negative. Lots of folks believe caffeine is a diuretic and actually dehydrates you. Check out the internet and other sources. I know a couple of times I've been unable to give blood in the morning because my veins were collapsed.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Thanks to my collection of DHMO containers, I've been better about getting my water intake up.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Bought an Orca Open Water Men's Full Sleeve wetsuit, and tried it out today. At least my open water swims are getting better.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

I must have broken a bone in the big toe on my left foot Monday evening while running, landing on my foot too hard while trying to slowdown on a downslope. My toe is on fire right now, and any time I put pressure on it makes for a highly fun and addictive stabbing pain. With that said, I'm going to see how it feels come Satuday morning, if I'm going to play hockey or not.

Yeah, those running injuries can be weird. A few years ago, I somehow sprained an ankle - I think I just had bad shoes and was pushing too hard.
