Firefox 4

Re: Firefox 4

Yeah, Adobe took major steps backwards as well this year. Adobe X is on par with Adobe 6.0 with how much fail it embodies.
I'm not crazy about Adobe X either, but I'm not sure how much of that is because of the software and how much is because I'm trying to run it on a cruddy computer at work.

Re: Firefox 4

Reading on Mozilla's site, it looks like a lot of people are having the same problem I am: freezing and crashing on sites that use Flashplayer (YouTube, Dailymotion, and of course ESPN3.com). I figure they'll fix this soon.

Isn't that an Adobe Flash problem? Or is it something not communicating right between Adobe and Firefox?

I had FF's Adobe Flash plug in crash last Friday when loading the regionals. Restarted FF and it worked okay. But then Saturday Adobe wanted me to install an update to Flash version 10.2.

I used it on a brand spanking new corporate engineering laptop. Intel i5 quadcore, 4 GB RAM, etc. Ran poorly, the buttons are now locked in place, (insert rest of gripes here). I will give them credit, the ability to mark up a PDF in reader is a feature sorely missing that I've been hoping for years Adobe would implement. Talk about one step forward, a dozen or so back.

I think it's a communication problem. And it works perfectly for me after restarting after it locks up as well. One of the two will have an update sooner or later.

Only 4GB RAM? Get out of the stone age, man :p.

Re: Firefox 4

Yeah, but once you get used to 2007, it's much more intuitive and quicker. Like using your mouse wheel on the ribbon to scroll through the tabs. I can use 2007 3x-4x faster than 2003. File menus are a terrible way to organize commands since the human mind should be able to recognize visual cues much better than ones based on words.

I hated it at first, but realized it was much better after a few months of using it. I would never go back.

I've been using it for years at work and have become proficient, but I don't use it at home because it is IMHO a complete fail. This could be the difference between a 48-year old brain with 25 years experience using the old interface, but since the old interface became standard across all apps for a long period, the idea that they'd force upgrade without an option to retain the old UI was the very height of Insider Hubris.

If Open Office was a smidge less terrible I'd have switched over for good.

Re: Firefox 4

I like the new FF 4, it seems to be leaner looking and quicker for me as well. If you don't like the new look you can still bring up the old menu just by right-clicking in the header and picking menu bar.

Whoa, That's badass. Menu Bar was already enabled for me when I upgraded (Win XP work machine), just tried un-enabling it. Wow! That's sorta awesome!

Yeah their was a few people at work who upgraded and the old menu bar was still enabled so they didn't think much of the upgrade. But after changing it to the "newer" style they all loved it.
