Mr Dave Shyiak has proven he can lead as a former captain, AC, and HC.
Uhh. No. While I appreciate all Dave has done during his time with NMU, I'd prefer to distance NMU from the circus that is UAA right now.

You might be right Geoff but all I here is this hockey program doesn't have the proper funds to compete D1.
So maybe some steps should be taken to prevent anything bad happening to this program.
With realignment of the Midwest teams the smaller under funded budgets are going to take it in the pocket books worse then ever when the 2013-2014 season starts.
GFMIf was to have that job/internship I would have the Superior Dome called the Starbucks Superior Dome and I would a Starbucks in every Classroom building. Starbucks would be all over the University.
You start a fund like the 100 Man Club has for NMU Hockey? Now I see a lot of names you've mentioned. Guys like Hiller and Avery. Do you think just because a guy saw a little time in the show, that he's automatically wealthy. Jimmy and Steve are both good guys, but hardly in the perennial 7 figure category. But all of those guys are in contact with NMU As for Shyiak, what is his sales and marketing experience? What part of the hockey budget do find the first year salary from? Current staff salaries? Recruiting? Equipment? Travel? And by the way, I'm glad you would have the Starbucks Superior Dome. But it would take a little more than a decent Yoopers salesman to convince one of the top businessmen in the country to reallocate the funds he already gives to NMU from academics to athletics. Your ideas are well founded, but you haven't presented anything that hasn't been tried and any names that haven't been contacted.Give Walt some support and hire Dave Shyiak as the marketing director to raise the needed funds from hockey alumni.

Get Forrest on the phone with Dave to get the campaign going to start an Endowment Fund campaign for NMU hockey.
He has passion for that team up north.
Why so quiet? Gee, I may have been spending the evening with a couple of my best friends. You know, dinner and such, planning a trip next month. Hope that's OK.GFM
It just frustrates me that NMU has many great alumni that have gone to professional sports in the NHL, NFL, NBA and coaching college sports. NMU has some of the most famous sports personalities that are on tv every day of the week including Tom Izzo coach at MSU Basketball, Steve Mooch on the NFL NEtwork, Steve Weeks goalie coach NHL, Don Waddel former GM of Atlanta Thrashers, Jim Hiller former NHL PLayer, Tom Laidlaw former NHL and NHL agent, Rich Comley former MSU coach, Steve Avery former Green Bay Packer, Mark Maddox former Buffalo Bill and four time Super Bowl participant, Stan ALbeck former San Antonio Spurs coach, Jerry Glannville former Houston OIlers coach and former famous on air personality for the NFL.
My point is they are out there and somebody needs to take this Athletic program to the next level.
I dont have all the answers this is just my opinion. Look at the names above and that doesnt even include Mr Starbucks. I see a good thing here and why is Dave so quiet.
I am worried about the future of college hockey in places like Alaska and the UP. Will these teams be able to continue to compete without updating. the rinks. The WCHA teams of next season are going to have many money hurdles and it going to be at the price of the Big 10 and the NCHC.
Time will tell but I am scared of the future of financial unstable WCHA teams without outdated ice rinks.

You could try the hockey office at 906-227-1209. And I hope all goes well for you in your battle. Was nice to see you this season.I haven't posted in a while, but I've been following the conversation. And, I don't know if I'm currently in any financial position to give to NMU Hockey (a month an a half ago I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Mantle Cell Lymphoma, so we're going to be cash-strapped for months/years). But, nevertheless, I'd like to know a contact number or address for the NMU Hockey Booster Club or 100 Man Club, so that I might send a small check that would go directly to the Wildcat Hockey program. Is there anyone out there who can provide me with a contact name or numbers?
As Anchors Away posted above or below (however you're reading this), I am definitely worried about the teams in the nWCHA and how they are going to survive, especially with the huge travel expenses they are going to face and the financial limitations that smaller state schools face year in and year out.
I will always be a Walt Kyle fan though!

So what do the Wildcats have coming back for 13-14? How's recruiting look?
GFM <— figures that this is what passes for an NMU offseason topic. Forgive him if he is wrong.
Did you really respond to a 4 year old post? The fans love Walt Kyle.
What schools did Eibler and Kaib play with?
It's not the off season thread that was created, it's actually a four year old thread dug up from the depths of USCHO.figures that this is what passes for an NMU offseason topic. Forgive him if he is wrong.
Hometowns? Are they elgible first or second semester and what year are they in school? thanks just curious.

But I don't think anyone cares.
Waddell is working with Pittsburgh. Talked to him for a while last month in Detroit. Pyle is a great guy, but 30 years removed from college hockey and takes over the ECHL Evansville Ice Men July 1. Hiller has a really good gig and is very well respected in NHL circles. Those points are moot however as you're right when you say Walt isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Nor should he. In his time at NMU, his record is 35 games better than his next closest nWCHA opponent and 50 better than the next after that. The only coach that is going replace Walt Kyle is going to be Jim Hiller if he doesnt make it to the NHL.
Jim Hiller is coaching in the WHL.
Another replacement might be Jeff Pyle. Coaching all over the minor leagues with no college experience.
Don Waddel a former GM of the Atlanta Thrashers. Dont know what he is doing now. A good hockey mind with NMU ties. Could be the AD at the same time as coach. Can run hockey programs.
Walt Kyle isnt going to be replaced any time soon. He is a pure hockey guy. NMU is lucky to have him return to the program.
