WHAT DO YOU THINK?

NCAA to North Dakota: Ditch offensive logo or forfeit games
The Fighting Sioux may not display the nickname or logo in the postseason.
Should UND change its nickname & logo?

I agree, they should keep the nickname and logo. And then they can try to form an independent schedule in all other sports when they have no conference other than for hockey. And have two sets of uniforms, one for regular season and one for NCAA tournament games. Or they could really stand on their principals and go for the forfeit.

BEST HOCKEY SHIRT EVER.....

Okay so it's well known that as far as actual hockey is concerned, yes my allegiances lie elsewhere. However, as far as the logo and team shirt are concerned, I have always loved the Fighting Sioux!

I say stand on your principles. It's part of your history and tradition.

The Indians, Redskins, Braves, etc. have all survived this scrutiny so far, granted they are pro sports teams and not educational institutions. But to give this up would probably mean adopting some ridiculous nickname like........... oh I don't know..... "Purple Eagle"?

Ditto. I feel compelled to add though, I think the new "PC" "North Dakota" script jersey is sharp as well.

I read a dedicated Sioux fan state he liked the idea of having the actual name of the university on the jersey as opposed to the mascot and mascot moniker.

Re: Fighting Sioux 2011-12 Season

So in regards to this Saturday's game against Minnesota, I concur that it will likely be a different game than last Friday night. But now it's time for my new favorite ESPN show, "Numbers Never Lie"...

While UND boasts the fifth-best scoring offense among Division I teams at 4.28 goals per game, they’ve been held to only 5 total goals in three playoff games so far. Additionally, they’ve only scored nine times in five contests (1.80 goals per game) against the Gophers, with one of those coming with an empty net. Their scoring defense has run hot-and-cold at times, particularly against Minnesota -- in their two victories this season against Minnesota, they’ve only yielded 1 goal, compared to giving up 18 goals in the three loses.

ARM commented that the winner would likely be the first team to get to three goals. Based on the numbers above, that doesn't bode well for the green-clad team, even if they are able to better-control the Gopher offense.

Thoughts? Rebuttal? Useless banter?

UND played Bemidji, who teams ranked higher than UND have struggled to score against also. And then they played UM who gave up 0 goals in the WCHA Final Four and if i remember correctly, very few in the 1st round sweep.

UND WOMEN'S HOCKEY: Not far away

http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/233532/

“I don’t think a big chunk of our roster realized how close we were to being national champions,” Idalski said. “That got lost because of the way we went out against Minnesota.”

Hmmm, if I'm not mistaken UND mens' team suffered a similar fate about a week ago....:D

From Roman Augustoviz's blog in the Star Tribune:

AWARDS TIME

Other WCHA teams have already announced their award winners.

At North Dakota

The Fighting Sioux held their Night of Champions, and the winners were:

Female Athlete of the Year: Jocelyne Lamoureux, junior, hockey. She was a top-three finalist for the Patty Kazamaier Award (best player in NCAA women’s hockey) and was an American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) first-team All-American, becoming the first player in program history to receive either honor.

She led the nation in scoring with a school-record 82 points while also establishing UND records for goals (34) and assists (48). A team captain and a Grand Forks native, Lamoureux helped UND land its first NCAA postseason berth. Following the season, she helped the United States win the silver medal at the 2012 IIHF World Hockey Championship.

In the classroom, Lamoureux is a physical education, exercise science and wellness major. She was named the WCHA Most Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year, a WCHA Scholar-Athlete and a WCHA All-Academic selection.

Female Rookie of the Year: Michelle Karvinen, hockey
