FFFF Semi (4/8): Wisconsin vs. RIT

Re: FFFF Semi (4/8): Wisconsin vs. RIT

Example a Wisconsin native might understand: Can someone who drinks Budweiser really make fun of someone who drinks Coors for drinking crappy beer?

Bud is made in Missouri, or MissouRAH.

We don't drink either.

Funny thing is I remember back when Coors could only be bought west of the Mississippi and people in the late 70's - early 80's would bring it back with them on trips and think it was quite a treasure. Then I had some and wondered at the stupidity of humans.

No.

But that's a poor analogy. Budweiser, according to Germans, isn't even beer to begin with. And quite frankly, I agree with 'em.

Re: FFFF Semi (4/8): Wisconsin vs. RIT

Most states have 2 levels for their schools. University of [State Name] and [State Name] State. Typically the U of schools are more prestigious, get more funding, and are more difficult to get into.

Examples: University of Arizona and Arizona State University. University of California (there are a few of these, the most popular is Berkeley, but UCLA is another) vs Cal State xxx (like Cal State San Louis Obispo, Cal State Northridge, etc). University of Oregon vs Oregon State... and on and on.

Wisconsin used to have a similar distinction - there was the University of Wisconsin system and the Wisconsin State Universities - the systems merged together in 1971, and each campus is now known as University of Wisconsin-[city name].

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Wisconsin_System

However, none of the old Wisconsin State University system schools ever emerged as a flagship campus to rival UW-Madison, the way that you see with Arizona and Arizona State, for example.

The only other research school in the system (granting PhD's) is UW-Milwaukee, which was one of the University of Wisconsin schools before the merger, not a Wisconsin State School.

Re: FFFF Semi (4/8): Wisconsin vs. RIT

On the Cali superiority thing...

I remember a UW vs Ohio State football game where a UCLA grad and LA native was sitting in front of us and going on and on about basketball titles and living in SoCal and blah blah blah. Eventually my wife said, oh UCLA, you mean our personal bowl b-i-t-c-h. The entire section started laughing and giving her high fives. He was quiet after that and she resumed stuffing her face with nachos, pizza, a pretzel WITH cheese and a large Diet Pepsi.*

There are hot women everywhere. I believe that the reference to co-eds was mainly about numbers on campus and then evolved into a running gag about hotness.

As Americans, we can all live anywhere that we choose, so living here, there or anywhere is no great feat. The thought does cross my mind from time to time though, "Now why don't I live in the Keys?" Someday.

* That part was a joke. She didn't have cheese with the pretzel. :p

That was kind of the point. You know what good beer is, and would laugh at an idiot drinking swill making fun of someone else drinking a different kind of swill.

I really could care less what you think of Wisconsin women. That wasn't the point the point was you sneaked into the convo that you were from California, which I found funny.

Seems to me that you protest too much. Someone's hurt your feelings about where you live before. It's okay, Rochester folk tend to be defensive about this sort of thing too.

The whole joke was that the Wisconsin vs RIT women thing is a cripple fight but to make that point there has to be some evidence that I've got more background than just Western New York. Otherwise I'm the dude from the place with the 3's attacking the 4's. Can a guy from Buffalo say jack squat about the girls in Wisconsin? Of course not... but someone from Miami, Dallas, (let's be honest, most of the South), and yes.. San Diego can.

There were plenty of good insults in what I sent your way to start with, don't go making up new ones ;)

Is it Thursday yet?

Re: FFFF Semi (4/8): Wisconsin vs. RIT

The Badgers will beat RIT.
"Wisko, tell us why?" you say. "Is it because the Badgers are better, faster, stronger, more skilled, and have cooler facial hair?"

No people. It isn't that at all. Not at all...

It's because we are Mountain climbers climbing a mountain, baby. Oh yeah, that's right. We've had our crampons, and carabiners(D), and carbiners(oval), and Avalanche trancievers packed since October. Do your guys have avalanche trancievers?? Do your guys even know what a compression stuff sack looks like, for crying out loud??
No... I think not.
And see, that makes all the difference. That's why on Thursday we'll be taking your remaining oxygen bottles, wrapping you in your sleeping bags, and leaving you by the side of the trail like David Sharp. Later, after we've summitted, we'll be saying "Sorry about that frostbite," and "Gee, I know that hypoxia's a *****, but hey, we had climb that mountain and you were in the way."
You see, Climbing mountains is what we do.
By the way... we did send some sherpas back to find you after we summitted, but they couldn't find you. Probably because YOU DIDN'T BRING YOUR FREAKING AVALANCHE TRANCIEVERS!"

What's with that, btw? I see their student sections, cheerleaders and dance teams on TV and am like, D-A-M-N!

We also put horses in the barn form time to time.

Well said! :D

Re: FFFF Semi (4/8): Wisconsin vs. RIT

But, but, it's your secondary school song now!

Go back under your rock! :p :D

It's actually our primary song.

Do you guys even have 1 school song? I know about the lam-o M-I-N-N-E... chant, but I don't rememeber a song. Do you have a band?

Do you have hot co-eds? Anything?

As a person who has been to both Rochester and Madison on many occasions, i will chime my $.02.

Madison Women are very nice. Madison is a fantastic city, and i actually would have moved up there if my industry was there. I have a few brothers there and go out pretty often when there. Love regent street, the Terrace, and the Essen...

As for RIT, many Alum, like myself traveled outside RIT to the 7 surrounding schools to find ladies. Schools like Geneseo and Nazareth had the opposite ratio. then there was Roberts Weslyan, U of R, St John Fisher......All these made for more choices. Where RIT was lacking, was made up by the surrounding Colleges. My wife is a Nazareth Grad and had many friends that were well worth the while.

Neither are better than the other. UW, is just a larger school, so there may be more to see. but i can imagine now that RIT is at a 2:1 Ratio, there should be better visuals. You just rarely get to see them with the crazy Lake effect weather. They somehow popped out of the woodwork in mid/late may...too bad school ends then.

That help you all?

As for the game. I would love to have RIT continue this voyage. I have seen the Badgers a few times this seasn, and they are probably playing thier best hockey now. I think Rochester would go crazy if the Tigers won this game.... Never seen the city/school back a team like this up there.....(the only DI program in the city i believe)

BTW Lienenkugels is a tasty Bev......beats out High Falls/Genny...But Saranac is good....

This is because we are all boulderers. Fine you can have your nice walk up a snowy mountain, and call that "climbing". We can make both explosive and dynamic moves, and controlled static ones requiring the full strength of the entire body. You are looking at a mountain in the distance, but have failed to see the short, but extremely difficult wall standing between you and your mountain. Too bad all of that walking left you with no forearms. All of that gear and you forgot to pack chalk...

Why bother packing months ahead when we keep our crashpads and chalk bags in our cars ready for when the rock calls.

A school song, indeed we do, it's awesome. We rejected that piece o' crap that became your school song. We INVENTED cheerleading and John Philip Sousa wrote our school march. And we didn't need to swipe the jingle from some crappy Missouri beer made from rice.:p
