Festivus Faceoff - Lake Placid

Re: Festivus Faceoff - Lake Placid

Clarkson-St Lawrence might have to save this doubleheader. The Union-RPI game has lost a lot of intrigue with RPI's unexpectedly bad season and up to a handful of key players possible out for Union, who had a 0-win weekend against inferior opponents last weekend. Even banged up, Union should still beat RPI, but hopefully it's a better game than the one in Troy last month. Union had that wrapped up by the middle of the second period and the rest of the game bordered on boring. I'm glad Union won, but the second half of the game was kind of a snooze fest. Compared to most other recent Union-RPI clashes, that one was kind of a bust in terms of drama and excitement. I don't have much of a read on Clarkson/St Lawrence - how do people see that one going?

Since people can watch these games online for free, I'm thinking it's going to be pretty empty up there. Maybe 2000-2500. The place holds like 7500 or so. I think Clarkson is the closest distance wise and that's still at least 70 miles one way. I'm not sure what incentive people will have to drive that distance when they can sit home and watch for nothing. I had ordered a couple tickets way back in late August.

The Clarkson/SLU game should be good - Clarkson won @ SLU Tuesday 5-3, with an ENG. I expect SLU to come out strong early, since they really carried play late in the game Tuesday, tied the game, then allowed a goal with about 4 minutes left. I'll agree with your thoughts about the first game, since Union has so far been significantly better.

As for attendance, I expect quite a few to make the trip from Clarkson & SLU (both schools are about 1.5 hours away) and have no idea how many will drive from the Capital region. Given that the Union-RPI is not expected to be as good, attendance for the first game may be quite a bit smaller.

The only reason I'm not going is because I'm in Buffalo and I already have tickets to the Sabres-Rangers game that night. If I lived anywhere east of Rochester, I'd be there in a heartbeat. The arena is great and there is so much history in the city. Add in Whiteface and it would assuredly be an annual trip for me if I lived within three hours of the city. I'm expecting an attendance closer to 4500-ish. According to the St. Lawrence-Clarkson box score from last year, attendance was 5500. I see that number dropping, but not too significantly.

I'm definitely going to these games. One of the few times in the year I get to visit part of the family.

As I'm pretty sure I mentioned before, the band will be there, so I will be there.
