Ferris State's Gotta Be Ranked?

Re: Ferris State's Gotta Be Ranked?

Because UConn and Robert Morris are perennial powerhouses.<object width="2" height="2"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UBCrsaet-2Q&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UBCrsaet-2Q&hl=en&fs=1&autoplay=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="2" height="2"></embed></object>.

Re: Ferris State's Gotta Be Ranked?

Oh, no question in my mind. Ferris State will definitely be ranked. It doesn't matter if they aren't anyways, look at these rankings:

Cornell ranked 6th and lost to the US Under 18 team?
Yale ranked 8th and haven't even played a game yet?
Minnesota 0-3-1 and ranked 11th?
Wisconsin 1-2-1 and ranked 17th?

I hope these improve, but I wouldn't doubt Ferris State not being ranked, but they definitely deserve to be this week.

4-0 at home, 5-1 to start the season? Come on.

Re: Ferris State's Gotta Be Ranked?

So Wilfrid Laurier must be world-beaters.

The bulldogs played their 3rd string goalie who is a senior and has never and will never play a game for the bulldogs again. And coach sat out 3 of the best players to get a look at the freshman game.

Yes Ferris did loose to Wilfrid Laurier, but look at the circumstances.

What's loose?

Re: Ferris State's Gotta Be Ranked?

No.

Canisius: 1-4-0
Connecticut: 0-3-0
Robert Morris: 1-3-0

1) None of these teams have been over .500 since the Clinton Administration (I'm not joking). Going 5-1 against 3 dog**** teams should not get you a top 15 ranking. You might want to beat someone that's going to do better than 14-22-2 if you want to get ranked.

2) Being ranked means absolutely nothing. That and $1 will get you a double cheeseburger from Burger King.

No. 7-1 and then we'll talk. And even then, those rankings are nothing more than something for fools to bump their gums about. They have absolutely no bearing on anything and are completely worthless. Look for the PWR in early January. Pay attention to those, as those are how the tournament is selected.

Ferris beat three teams that are a combined 2-10 to start the season. Barely a blip on the radar. 10 or 11 teams in the CCHA alone could have done that.

They rank 20 teams now, I guess. Great. Being ranked #20 out of 58 teams isn't exactly earth-shattering.

Re: Ferris State's Gotta Be Ranked?

I don't think we can evaluate this based on the opponents because Robert Morris and UConn have the records they do largely because of what Ferris did to them. No matter who they play, they are playing teams of Division 1 college hockey players and something has to be said for winning the games whether or not they are supposed to win. If Ferris deserves to be in the top 20 it is because they are winning these games quite convincingly, they are scoring well and defending well and because they are playing like a top 20 team. It is too early to let the numbers dictate rankings; we just have to use the eye test.

On the other hand, Ferris doesn't deserve to be ranked because of the very reasons I just argued against. They have a bad loss and haven't proven anything. Ferris deciding to begin the season with this schedule is showing the voters that they are not interested in being ranked. Also, Ferris has not earned the benefit of the doubt. Year after year they disappoint. They always sniff the back end of the top 20 and proceed to tank after the new year. Voters remember things like that. The reason those other teams mentioned are ranked so high is because they are there every year and because they have scheduled teams that are also there every year.

With that said...I don't think they will be ranked.

Re: Ferris State's Gotta Be Ranked?

Good arguments FerrisFan.

Why do you think Ferris chose a schedule like they did this year? Why do you think they don't opt to play the Boston Universities, and the Minnesotas or the North Dakotas?

Because it still wasn't easy enough to play a schedule with Bowling Green, Western Michigan and Lake State on it?

Grow some balls and play decent teams.
