Re: Ferris State @ RPI, Friday Oct 12th

I noticed that they were displaying some highlights (presumably from recent seasons) to Hey Man Nice Shot by Filter. That may have happened the previous week as well, I wasn't paying attention.

Edit: I should clarify this statement. The highlights were being shown on the videoboard at the HFH and the music was being played over the sound system. The highlights were being showed with ~2 or 3 minutes left remaining in the intermission.

BTW, zebras are O'Brien and Dell.

6 minutes into the second and not much has happened.

Re: Ferris State @ RPI, Friday Oct 12th

Burgie-Thanks so much for updates. We are heading home-but cannot tune into the game here. Connection coming and going and probably will all the way home. 1-1 sounds great to me as last year this is a team we just could not score on. Let's Go Red-

Does sound like a good period of play for the Real Red team. 1-1 against a highly touted team from last year. Tonight is the night to win with them just getting into town and maybe a little tired from the trip. Would do wonders for the confidence if they were able to hang tight and pull one out.

Re: Ferris State @ RPI, Friday Oct 12th

1st goal was adjusted to...
1) McGowan (Bailen, Leboeuf) 8:01

The primary assist for the second goal hasn't been properly awarded yet. Somebody had two whacks at the puck right in front of the net. Leboeuf had the initial shot from the point.
2) Haggerty (somebody, Leboeuf) 31:18

Re: Ferris State @ RPI, Friday Oct 12th

End 2, 2-1 RPI
Shots 19-13 FSU
FSU 0-2 on PP
RPI 0-1 on PP

Too many odd-man chances for Ferris towards the middle-end of the period. The team will need to be careful to make sure that they don't allow too many more of them. Eventually, it will bite them in the back side.

Time for me to head out. Go Red!

Re: Ferris State @ RPI, Friday Oct 12th

Just getting back from hockey practice with the kid - thanks for keeping the updates going Burgie.

Re: Ferris State @ RPI, Friday Oct 12th

just tuned in and I'm impressed by the RPITV telecast.
But what are all those empty red seats? Everyone still tailgating?

Re: Ferris State @ RPI, Friday Oct 12th

Home just in time to see JL put in the clincher. I may have to increase my earlier estimate for total victories this year. Friends tell me we made a few errors and defense needs to tighten up a bit-but that we moved the puck well and actually looked like we had a power play and put guys in front of the net. Go Red!!! Undefeated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Ferris State @ RPI, Friday Oct 12th

That didn't work the last several times that I attended.

It worked tonight! Let's test that hypothesis again tomorrow. :D

Kudos to Babo, Jim and everyone who brought food (and appetites) who made tailgate tasty and satisfying.

And the team came through tonight! We were outshot and gave up territorial edge in 2nd & 3rd periods. We had nice presence around their net. The D gave Scott Diebold some good looks at the puck and he played well, esp when FSU had some solid scoring chances. (I.e.: Check the rpi tv sequence around 6:30 of the 3rd.)

Beating a good team two nights in a row is hard. Coach is driving home where we need to improve for Game #2. The question: how well do we listen and execute?

Re: Ferris State @ RPI, Friday Oct 12th

39 posts.... hmmm. A few folks were at the tailgate (hope I can remember everyone!): Ralph, EHF, FlagDude08, REDaero91, RKarger, turk181, AspyDad, troyboy, fishcore and wicked slappahs... and a bunch of parents.

Thanks to burgie12, hockeyhound, jmhusker, visoroo & DrD for keping the thread going tonight.

Doc, the team played two great periods. Then they let Ferris dictate the pace of the third. Diebold was very impressive and kept us ahead until JL could put it on ice.
Bradley made a mistake that cost us the first goal, but then had a very good game. Considering that it happened in the first two minutes, it was good to see the kid put it behind him.
One game does not a season make, but this was a very good start.
