February 23rd NCAA rankings

spwood

Do You Believe in Miracles? YES!!!
Obviously I noticed Plattsburgh dropped a spot right away. Anyone with more time than I have give me a rational explanation for this?

Re: February 23rd NCAA rankings

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but i believe Adrian was higher in last week's rankings as well.

Trinity jumped Manhattanville too and seperated Elmira/Manhattanville

Re: February 23rd NCAA rankings

I guess my thinking is that Middlebury beat Skidmore and Castleton, both teams Plattsburgh has beaten this year. So what pushed them over the Cardinals in the rankings? Seems arbitrary to me....

Duh....it's the NCAA - my bad!

Perhaps that was enough to push Middlebury ahead in COP, which was in turn enough to push Midd ahead of Platty?

I don't know, it seems odd to me.

Re: February 23rd NCAA rankings

IIRC, once your ranked, your always ranked, in terms of record vs. ranked teams??

Huh? I didn't see Norwich passing Oswego. The only categories that NU wins are the two SOS metrics

Code:
Norwich vs Oswego
WIN 0.8571 0 0.9167 1
OWP 0.5515 1 0.5278 0
OOP 0.5246 1 0.5180 0
H2H 0- 0-0 0 0- 0-0 0
COP 3- 0-2 0 6- 0-0 1
RNK 7- 1-2 0 7- 1-0 1
 ======================
======================
PTS 2 3

Re: February 23rd NCAA rankings

Unless they are counting ties as .5 wins. Then NU's record vs. RNK is 8-1, compared to 7-1 for Oswego, giving them 3 of 5.

WOW....I missed that one as well. Can it be that the Interlock is now getting a ton more respect than it did last week (by playing and beating) each other? Or could they be setting up Oswego to have to play a first round game with Adrian? A hedge in case Elmira doesn't make it....

Is it me or is the smoke-filled room filled up a little earlier this year?

EDIT: Actually, the COP and RNK are so close they are probably considered ties. Norwich wins SOS, which we know the NCAA likes, and Oswego wins just winning %....maybe not as big a stretch as I thought.

If it's the normal .5W, .5T, that 8-2 for 0.800 compared to 7-1 for 0.875.

I'm an NU fan, and I don't see this at all. The main reason, of course this matters is the likelihood that only one East team will get a first round bye.

IIRC,

Adrian cannot play Oswego without flying.

Re: February 23rd NCAA rankings

USCHO Pairwise Rankings have been updated accordingly.

With the new rankings list (this is what is crazy about this system) Norwich goes to 7-1-1 from 7-1-2. This increase their RNK to 0.833, so because somebody who was ranked became unranked, Norwich's portfolio looks better. Still doesn't explain NU over OSW, but we'll take it

Re: February 23rd NCAA rankings

Wow, Look at that NESCAC:D :D :D Finally getting the respect it deserves! Hockeyguy99 can explain how it happened though.

Re: February 23rd NCAA rankings

No, that was changed last year, so you are helped if a ranked team that beat you falls out, and hurt if a ranked team you beat falls out. This creates an infinite loop of teams becoming ranked and unranked. Silly decison

Re: February 23rd NCAA rankings

Were that the case, there's no reason it wouldn't have manifested in the first NCAA poll.

Williams also beat Norwich, thereby boosting all of the NESCAC and it all kind of mathematically cascades... and it doesn't show up immediately.
