Eternal Flame : Your United States Air Force Academy Fighting Falcons!

Re: Eternal Flame : Your United States Air Force Academy Fighting Falcons!

don't mess with these dudes. they know where you are AND they have drones! :)

You're no fun. There hasn't been much activity over there the past few days anyway. Someone needs to spice things up.

Re: Eternal Flame : Your United States Air Force Academy Fighting Falcons!

the whole program is understated and low key. so are almost all the fans. there is never much action. (on the boards, that is)

one time they had mullet night ... handed out mullet wigs to the cadets. that was pretty funny.

Re: Eternal Flame : Your United States Air Force Academy Fighting Falcons!

It gets up to around 3200 with standing room for bigger games.

that might have been before they put the "mini" suites up at the ends of the rink? not much standing room now.

another great Frank Serratore quote:

“I’ve got a strong personality. I’m an authoritarian coach. If I don’t stop, I will burn my guys out. … Frank Serratore comes with an expiration date.”

seems I also remember him once saying "a little Frank Serratore goes a long way"

As one who served in the AF I've always been a fan. These young men "get it" - not that the other young men playing hockey don't, but they do so knowing they will probably be putting their lives on the line for us one day. At one of the the games at UAH, a severely injured Afghan/Iraqi vet dropped the opening puck. The cadets couldn't get over there fast enough to shake his hand and thank him for his service.

should we all be so grateful!

Thanks for your service, fangers!

Mrs. P and I lived in Colorado Springs for two years before coming to State College at the end of 1998. My radio job had me covering CC more than the Falcons, but I always managed to find an excuse to get to Clune and Falcon Stadium. On Saturdays when I wasn't in the press box I always sat outside our apartment and watched the football pre-game air show. :)

As the PxP guy for the Penn State Icers I've had the honor of calling several Penn State - Navy games. It blew me away when I learned that our webcasts were being listened to by troops in A-stan. The Middies didn't have the best talent, but like the Falcons, they give you a 60 minute battle. You could see the respect our players had for the Middies during the national anthem and the playing of the Blue and Gold after the game.

I'm looking forward to seeing and (hopefully) calling the Nittany Lions as they battle the Falcons in the upcoming years - and hoping for a return trip to the Springs.
