ESPN's Substandard Coverage

This is my biggest problem with Buccigross. He's more interested in telling you when each star player will be moving on to the NHL. Just let it breathe man. They are playing for their schools at the moment.

It's obvious that Buccigross is aiming his commentary at casual fans who don't usually watch as opposed to those of us that follow regularly.

It is likely a point of emphasis in production meetings. ESPN wants to promote the NHL as much as possible since they have a massive broadcast and streaming deal.

Which is weird, because looking at the ratings it becomes obvious that there aren't many casuals watching the games.

The ESPN announcers, from the regionals to the Frozen Four, and historically including Barry Melrose, are so enamored with a player draft statuses.
If it were a drinking game, and you took a drink every time it was mentioned who drafted the player, the viewing audience would be drunk before the end of the first period.
The Frozen Four is an event that can stand on its own merits. Its purpose is not an NHL Futures event, even if that is where many will end up.
No one has been drafted in the Final Four, and there is plenty of the broadcasters to talk about without it.
