Eric Selleck Goes Pro

Re: Eric Selleck Goes Pro

If Selleck wasn't able to sharpen his skills on lesser talent is he going to be able to now??

You don't get better playing against weak competition.

You get better when you're forced to improve your game to be able to keep up with the talent of everyone else on the ice.

Exactly. Eric has nothing left to prove in D-III college hockey.

I'm sure that when he works out over the summer it will be on his agility and putting some muscle on his frame.

Re: Eric Selleck Goes Pro

I've been around DIII for over 20 years now, and Selleck was probably (for his graduating status) the best player I've seen. Sorry Aucoin, sorry McLean, sorry Aronson, sorry Naughton....You had to plan your game around stopping Selleck, period. Big, physical and tough. I will be surprised to see him in a Panthers uniform next season, but I can deffently see him putting up some numbers in Rochester, or whereever Florida decides to move their AHL team to.

My attempt at draft day humor. This is a sweeping generalization at best. Face it, sometimes athletes or anyone in the real world spit the bit when they are "forced to improve your game" to keep up with the competition. In business this is sometimes referred to as the peter principle. That is reality,
time will tell if this kid has the stones.

Re: Eric Selleck Goes Pro

Has a d3 player ever left early to sign a two way contract with a NHL/AHL team? This is a shock for a d3 player. How did the d1 teams miss this kid?

Taylor Vichorek of Hamline University left during his freshman year and signed with Tampa Bay/Norfolk

Congrats to Eric and all the best at the next level. There is no doubt he has the stones. Sometimes that is the difference between whether a player makes it or not at the next level; that is when the bell rings, will they answer it?

I am sure his physical game and aggressive style is just another attraction for Florida besides his skill and ablility!

All the best to Oswego next season.

Re: Eric Selleck Goes Pro

I see not what you speak of.

The text was changed. The original subhead was "DI players who have left with remaining eligibility". The change was made to NCAA players, and thus Oswego was demoted back to DIII :)

Oh, I know what you speak of, I just don't see it. :p

Re: Eric Selleck Goes Pro

Congratulations, Eric!! Good luck to you!

Hey, let's not forget that Selleck isn't the only kid to play under Gosek to go pro.

This statement is true. Erik Cole played for coach Gosek in the Oswego minor hockey system. Cole was a 2006 Olympian and a Stanley cup champion.
