Goose Island ten Hills Pale Ale. A little stronger than their IPA.

I also picked up a 6 of Founders Porter, which I've never had.

Re: EMERGENCY - I'm drinking and the old drinking thread is closed!

Had an insatiable itch for a Manhattan tonight. God that is a fantastic cocktail.

Almost pulled the trigger on a bottle of Elijah Craig 18. Almost.

Re: EMERGENCY - I'm drinking and the old drinking thread is closed!

Thinking it's time for some gin. But I can't decide on Beefeater or Tanqueray.

For tonight, though, it's Founders Porter and Goose Island Experimental Ale.

Re: EMERGENCY - I'm drinking and the old drinking thread is closed!

Made an impulse purchase the other night... Picked up a bomber of Mega Milk Stout based solely on the bottle art... I'm a huge NES & Mega Man fan so decided to take a flyer... Not the greatest for an oatmeal stout... Nowhere near the smoothest option in the genre... This is also heavy on the hops... Not my cup of tea... Still has badass bottle art though and I'll be keeping this as a display piece...

Also had Revolution's Gravedigger Billy... It's a barrel aged Scotch Ale... Surprised by the smoothness of this beer... It's very heavy on the bourbon notes, but it's not harsh... No "bourbon burn" for lack of a better term... I'm really becoming a fan of Revolution's "Deep Wood" series... It's showing that barrel aged beers can be year round offerings... I'm gonna have to go to their brew pub up in Chicago sometime... They've won me over...

Re: EMERGENCY - I'm drinking and the old drinking thread is closed!

A couple buddies and I had a vertical tasting of Deschutes' Abyss yesterday. The 2010, 2014, and 2015. Very interesting to see the differences in tastes depending on the year and how the beer aged.

Also tried Ballast Points Indra Kunindra. Tasted like Indian food (dot, not feather) in liquid form. One of the more interesting beers I've had, that's for sure.

Having a Founders Blushing Monk (got lucky and found one yesterday) for the game today. Such a great beer.

Eh... Southern Comfort shouldn't go anywhere unless the new firm totally effs it up like "New" Coke... It is still a popular drink for the under 30 crowd and for people that don't venture into the $30+ bottles of booze....

And people named MeanEgirl.

Stopped at a Caribbean place yesterday for lunch, and they had a TON of different rums. I tried to remember what kinds Gurtholfin liked, but drew a blank, so just took my best stab at it.

El Dorado 15YO and Pyraat XO. Both were very tasty. Had them neat, of course.

Re: EMERGENCY - I'm drinking and the old drinking thread is closed!

I like and have stocked both.

The Eldorado 12 is actually better, but the 15 is quite nice too.

Both are largely distilled and produced in Guyana.

Yeah, the ED 12 cost more than the 15, which I found odd. I'm definitely headed back to the place at some point. The wings were phenomenal. Smalley's in Stillwater MN:

Edit: their wing list is incomplete on the site. They have something like 10 different levels of hotness you can choose from. I went with the Beyond Stupid, which was just one level hotter than halfway up the list (the 666 wings being the top), and a bourbon-jerk, which was one level below the halfway point.

Double edit: here's a link to the image of the wing sauces (will have to zoom in to read):

Been on a bit of a Gose kick lately my normal bar has had Anderson Valley Blood Orange Gose on tap for a while, the manager said they ordered two kegs rather than the 1 they normally order for rotational drafts and it isn't going fast, it doesn't have an overpowering orange taste and it's tart but not really sour for some reason I really like it.

Grimm Artisanal Ales Super Spruce Gose This one had a really unusual taste that I wouldn't say was bad, it was okay

Praire Artisan Ales Gose This had a grape flavor didn't like it as much as the Anderson Valley but good.

Duvel Maredsous Bruin I'm a big fan of Duvel but didn't like this variation as much

Newburgh Checkpoint Charlie Alright I ordered this because of the name but this was a really good Berlin Style Weissbier just a little bit of sourness

Apex Predator This is a Saison and quite good

Ninkasi Tricerahops Not quite a strong as I would expect from a double Ipa but enjoyable to drink

Captain Lawrence Seeking Alpha Triple IPA, extremely strong and extremely hoppy, while I generally enjoy IPA's this does not make the favorites list

Saranac Into the Dark Black IPA Another IPA that didn't stand out to me kind of a cross between an IPA and a porter

Founders' Spectra Trifecta. Every year, Founders makes a special beer for the ArtPrize event in downtown Grand Rapids, and this year's beer is a kolsch-style ale with hints of lemongrass, chamomile, and ginger. This drinks as smooth as herbal tea, but it's beer, and is far tastier.

Re: EMERGENCY - I'm drinking and the old drinking thread is closed!

Arcadia Ales (Battle Creek, MI) Loch Down, their Scotch Ale. I do like darker, heavier beers...

Re: EMERGENCY - I'm drinking and the old drinking thread is closed!

Made a big trade with bbdl this weekend, some whales involved.

Some beers were a matter of convenience, not really hard to find, depending on area you live, but in the end it was worth it to both of us. The totals:

I gave up:
Deschutes 2015 Abyss (x2)
Deschutes 2015 Dissident
Lift Bridge Barrel Aged Silhouette (think: Surly Darkness/Three Floyd's Dark Lord)

I got:
4 Bell's 30th Anniv
Boulder The Dude's D'Spare
Avery Vanilla Bean Stout (x2)
Goose Island Bourbon County Stout

Re: EMERGENCY - I'm drinking and the old drinking thread is closed!

I was initially excited to see Bell's HOPSLAM available at my local liquor store until
I was told that it was only available in aluminum cans this year.
I of course would prefer it in bottles even though the beer guy there assured me
that beer keeps better in aluminum cans. I'm still not sold on that, so...
I decided to buy local and save big $s getting a case of this which I totally enjoy.

Considering that Surly only distributes cans for their primary runs, I think we can safely put that to bed. I'm not sure they would sacrifice quality if they didn't have to.

Sure, they do bombers, but those are for limited runs.
