Re: EMERGENCY - I'm drinking and the old drinking thread is closed!

aw, I'm disappointed. No wonder they said it was for people who don't like beer. I'm picking up some of the Buffalo Sweat on Sunday (the fancy grocery store by my mom's house has it).

Yeah, I was kind of curious about the New Belgium, too. Talk about a total strikeout by them. They have been going downhill the last couple of years.

Well, at least the proceeds from my purchase will go to Protect Our Winters :o

Picked up some based on the description and New Belgium having some decent brews... Tis what I get for not waiting on word of mouth advertising I guess :p

Mmmmmm, Surly Abrasive.

Baaaaaaaaaa
Had the Coffee Bender today. It was okay. OC ran out of Darkness in less than a day. :(

Needed the CB to finish my OC Tour, and I had only had it once before, and wanted to re-affirm what I thought of it, and it's exactly as how I remembered.

Yum!

Speaking of tasty alcohol. I picked up a bottle of Glenfiddich 14 Bourbon Barrel Reserve. This might be my favorite scotch of all time. It's not as good as my Balvenie 30 or even the Glenfiddich 15, but it might be my favorite.

That sounds delicious.

And again, kudos on the Balvenie 30. Haven't had it, but have had everything they offer 21YO and younger, and it's my favorite scotch distillery, hands down.

Re: EMERGENCY - I'm drinking and the old drinking thread is closed!

Maybe someday I'll open it up for a big event. But, and I'm sure you understand, at that price I have to keep it for other equal-caliber pours and extremely special events. I think I've had it myself for:
1. My 30th birthday
2. Campus Pizza closing (my roommate commented the next morning, "I saw the box for your 30-year-old, and knew it wasn't a good night.")
3. Houghton 2015

I hear ya, I hear ya. Hell, I have a Caol Ila 9YO Cask Strength that I have stashed away, and that was probably 1/6 the price of the Balvenie 30, and I might be over-estimating the Caol. If it does come to Houghton 2015...and I am given the honor of having a sip, you'll get a pour bought for you to compensate.

I will certainly consider it. I'm pretty sure I'm bringing it for Houghton 2016.

FYI......

The Utica Memorial Auditorium (NY), site of the 1962 NCAA Ice Hockey Tournament and home to the D-III Utica College Pioneers, is pleased to announce that in addition to the large variety of beer one can consume while watching a hockey game, one can now partake of distilled spirits as well from their new full service bar, located behind section 216.

I'm also thinking I need a special beer for Thanksgiving. I might as well get the Dragon's Milk.

Stopped at a store last night on my way to a buddy's, thanks to a tip from a friend. Found 11 total bottles of the 3 DM variants. Bought 'em all. Let my friend know, and I guess there was SUPPOSED to be a 1 bottle limit of each variant.

Whoopseedrizzle. :D

Re: EMERGENCY - I'm drinking and the old drinking thread is closed!

Question for beer drinkers. I bought the house I live in about 25 years ago. I guess an old uncle/wino stayed out in a detached building much of the year. I found a bunch of old beer cans with labels I do not recognize, and I'm wondering if I should just toss them or find out if someone might want them for collection. I doubt they have any worth, and I don't care about that. But someone might collect this kind of thing. Many of the cans have rust and are dented. Among the brands are: 1st Annual Chippewa Falls Wisconsin Light Premium Beer; Schell's 1978 Xmas Brew; Brewry's Beer, Schells Bock Beer, Fallstaff 1976 Becentennial ; Schells Deer Brand Export Beer, Schells Hunters Special Beer, Old Frothingslosh Pale Stale Ale, Lodi Beer, Badger Beer, 1983 Edition; F.A. Poth & Sons, 1077th M*a*s*h Beer, Wau-na-beer Gemutlichkeit.

I think this is just a bunch of cheep, local beer, but I just don't know.

Schells...Fallstaff.....yeah, that's some cheap local beer. I just did a very brief ebay search, and you're looking at a couple bucks a can on average, at best.

Yeah, I thought that. I just wanted to toss them without feeling like I should have taken the time to see if someone had reason to want them. I also thought you might be the one to respond, given your love of beer.

That was the "collector" side of me, given my history of sports cards and memorabilia and such. ;)

Apparently, although I have not researched it, some of today's rarer beers have a market for the bottles and such. See: Surly Darkness, 3 Floyd's Dark Lord, etc.

Re: EMERGENCY - I'm drinking and the old drinking thread is closed!

Really? I've been saving one bottle for the collection and tossing the rest

Rather, I should say I'm recycling them.

I think WPoS and Viking know more about it. I also save certain bottles for my collection.
