ECACHOCKEY 2012-13 Season: One of the strongest leagues in college hockey?

The most recent Pairwise Rankings place six ECACHOCKEY clubs among the top 13 in the nation: Dartmouth #3, Yale #4, Quinnipiac #9, Union #10, Cornell #12 and Harvard #13. Granted, it is still very early in the season but this is quite a statement for a league that historically has been disrespected by the college hockey "elite". Having witnessed several games recently, including Yale's strong performance against Denver and Colordo College plus Cornell's thrashing of Michigan -- it's time that the college hockey world take notice. With a few exceptions it would be difficulult to find such strong statements for student athleticism in other major college sports.

Having created one of these before, it is WAY too early for these threads.

Why subject yourself to this? All the WCHA and Hockey East fans are just going to come on here and shoot you down.

Numbers don't lie...CURRENTLY it is. This year....not past years !! Talk about THIS year like it is.

I had never thought of the ECAC as the new super league but you have me sold.

Based on rankings that are pretty much irrelevant until February at the earliest.

Dartmouth is no joke - I'm a Big Green believer.

But the EZAC is still the EZAC.

Re: ECACHOCKEY 2012-13 Season: One of the strongest leagues in college hockey?

I think the ECAC is one of the top 5 toughest conferences

The majority of hockey fans would not pick their team to finish worse than fifth place. The majority of hockey fans are wrong [if arithmetic retains any credibility]. Imagine the poppycock generated by wannabe hockey savants who predict the performance of eight or ten teams at a time, compared to the performance of another eight or ten teams?

If they were in the women's CHA last year, they wouldn't be. ;)

Re: ECACHOCKEY 2012-13 Season: One of the strongest leagues in college hockey?

Silly ylae fans. Until we do something on the national stage in April routinely (not necessarily win championships, but do more than send a team to the frozen four twice a decade), we will not be amongst the strongest leagues in college hockey.

Yes, this year appears to be a stronger than usual ECAC, however it won't mean squat if we get 4 teams into the dance, but none to the frozen four.

Sit back, be silent, and let the season unfold.

UNO is visiting Quinnipiac at the end of the month for a weekend series and I would see that series as something of a bellwhether on this thought process.

This thread is gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Keep in mind this thread says "one of the strongest leagues in college hockey" not the strongest. Looking at the other leagues I see a very down CCHA this year beside the Irish and Miami. Hockey East is also very top heavy with UNH, BC, and BU. Otherwise HE is not performing all that well with Lowell, Maine, and Vermont all really struggling. Right now the ECAC is definitely the strongest conference from top to bottom. However, it is very early in the season and until they start sending teams consistently to the frozen four they won't get respect.

I feel dumber after reading this.

At this point Quinnipiac is the class of the league, but they are a Major Junior team anyway.:p

It's a long season folks, there was a reason the PWR was not posted until after January in the past. The numbers are too raw.
