ECAC officiating

Re: ECAC officiating

Saturday night, Q-Pac's goalie kicked the net off about 2 or 3 times deliberately. Not a single penalty was called. It's delay of game, and if it's within 2 minutes or during overtime, a penalty shot. Page HR-63 describing the Delay of Game penalty, clauses c-f.

I thought we were watching Andy Iles from Cornell on saturday night the net came off so many times.

It was a terribly drilled hole all weekend. We got away with highway robbery on Friday night against P-ton when York kicked that same net off and took away a wide open goal. Blame the maintenance staff on that one, not Hartzell or Dumas / O'Brien.

FD, The same could be said about York, I think his net at the freakout had wheels on it. :D This type of offense is still a non call as far as the officials and goalies go. It DOES seem to get picked up on more often when a D.Man is the offender. The ECAC so concerned with it that they do not even list PIM for goalies on their stats page.

My pet peave is that they never call icing when players routinely send the puck in from just behind the red line when they dump it in for a line change.

Or "Swallow the Whistle" during overtime.

Don't even get me going on facemasking

It's all BS and all subjective, but there are certain things that refs ignore routinely.

That's pretty much what your announcers on the video feed said as well. They actually commented after the first time that they couldn't believe nobody bothered to fix the problem that was evident the night before.

In defense of Hartzell, they showed a couple of overhead replays and you could clearly see he wasn't trying to knock it off, rather he was trying to use it as leverage the way most goalies do.

Re: ECAC officiating

There are a bunch that suck in the AHA this year too. I must not have paid attention enough in the past, because there were too many things this year. It is one thing if refs call a game tight one night and loose the next, but at least be consistent! You call a 5 minute penalty on a hit behind the net when the player has the puck(probably because the player left his feet, I would guess) then you don't call a high elbow on the PP team. I heard people say the 5 min wouldn't even be a penalty in HE. I'll let that pass, but please, be freaking consistent. They're poor in Buffalo too.

The Murphys are from Tonawanda, and a few of the ones we really hate are from Rochester. Maybe that has something to do with it...

Re: ECAC officiating

Back on the subject of Stewart, my brother related a story to me about how out of all of the refs in the AHL back in the late 80's that Stewart was very good and also had the most sense of humor out of all of the refs. Mind you, my brother and his fellow season ticket holders at the New Haven Nighthawks games in Section 14 were professional hecklers, so bad, they were assaulted by Providence Coach Mike Millbury. The last few seasons of the team there was a permanent NHPD presence along the glass. This is typical video of what those guys dealt with.
