ECAC ALL-Stars VS US

Re: ECAC ALL-Stars VS US

How is Vanessa Emond (St.Lawrence) not on this team? Tied for 20th in the Nation in scoring, would seem like a good choice to me.

Re: ECAC ALL-Stars VS US

Have to think some of it might have been personal choice not to participate, plus a definite desire by the league to include all 12 teams (although Dartmouth and Brown already had games of their own scheduled around that time).

I had questions as well.

The fact that no freshmen were included leads one to believe that choices were not made based on current year's performance.

No freshman were selected from Hockey East either. Not sure what the reason is.

I believe in most leagues the votes were taken by coaches before the season started, thus effectively eliminating freshmen from consideration.

Re: ECAC ALL-Stars VS US

It seems like the selections were made in an effort to include all teams (execpet dartmouth and brown due to conflicts) so they have representatin from each team. However I don't think this gives this "all-star" team a very good chance of a good showing against team USA. But other than trying to get atleast one player from every team I am not sure what the selection strategy was, it seems strange. Also those on Canada's under 22 team were not allowed on the roster

Not an issue of allowed, its an issue of conflicts. Canada U22 team members are busy playing in Europe. The TC-U22 roster includes 5 ECAC players. In addition a few more ECAC players are with Canada's National team.

Re: ECAC ALL-Stars VS US

Picked up standing room only tickets last week. Spoke with one of the parents of one of the club teams this week. The girls were given tickets to sell and not all of them sold, so there should be tickets if you call the box office.

It's an exhibition game, I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter if they have a "good showing" or not. The purpose of the game is to help Team USA get ready for the Olympics and for the fans to get a chance to see some of the better players in the league play together.

U.S. Women’s National Team Tops ECAC Hockey All-Stars, 8-2, in Qwest Tour

January 3, 2010

HAMDEN, Conn. – Eleven players factored in the scoring in leading the U.S. Women's National Team to an 8-2 win over the ECAC Hockey All-Stars in Qwest Tour action today at TD Bank Sports Center. Caitlin Cahow (Branford, Conn.), Natalie Darwitz (Eagan, Minn.) and Jocelyne Lamoureux (Grand Forks, N.D.) each tallied two goals in pacing Team USA to victory.

"It was a fun afternoon and a wonderful crowd," said Mark Johnson, head coach for Team USA. "The game was pretty entertaining and I was very impressed with the effort of the ECAC All-Stars. I also like that we scored eight goals - it's good to see players get rewarded for their efforts."

Team USA opened the scoring just :21 into the contest when Angela Ruggiero (Simi Valley, Calif.) put a hard slap shot from the top of the right faceoff circle past ECAC Hockey netminder Sonja van der Bliek. Hilary Knight (Hanover, N.H.) then gave the Americans a 2-0 advantage at 4:56 and Cahow made it 3-0 when she knocked the puck in after Jocelyne Lamoureux skated it in at 12:32.

The U.S. squad put up three more goals in the second frame, while the ECACH All-Stars gained a pair of tallies to make it a 6-2 game. Jocelyne Lamoureux potted one at 2:38 off a feed from Erika Lawler (Fitchburg, Mass.), then Cahow netted her second goal of the outing at the 9:13 mark for a 5-0 score.

The All-Stars came back with consecutive goals, first from Bray Ketchum at 12:12, then from Anna McDonald at 16:51, as the U.S. lead was cut to 5-2. Darwitz closed out the period by completing a tic-tac-toe play with Knight and Kelli Stack (Brooklyn Heights, Ohio) for a 6-2 score at 19:50.

In the final stanza, Team USA scored twice more, including the second goal for both Darwitz and Jocelyne Lamoureux in a :20 span (12:40 and 13:00).

Molly Schaus (Natick, Mass.) made 26 saves in net for the U.S., while the three ECAC Hockey goalies combined for 28 stops.

NOTES: Team USA was 0-for-1 on the power play and played a penalty-free game ... Hilary Knight was named U.S. Player of the Game ...
