East Regional- Union vs Vermont & Quinnipiac vs Providence

Re: East Regional- Union vs Vermont & Quinnipiac vs Providence

Just remember where you Vermont kiddies came from.

Having come from the ECAC there is a tremendous difference week in and week out. The ECAC has always produced some good teams and there always will be 2-3 teams that are in the top tier. But there isn't 8-10.

Just and FYI, UVM and PC are a combined 5-1-3 against ECAC teams.

Great research, but sorry to say that this time of year, those stats mean nothing. Put all the EZAC spin you want on it, these games will be tight.

Ylae skating circles around the rest.

And Union and QU are 7-1-2 vs Hockey East including the 3rd place ECAC team sweeping the HE champs in a home and home. Blah Blah Blah Hockey East..... heard the same nonsense last year when BC didn't even belong on the same ice as Union.

And Q and Union are a combined 4-0 against the two teams who played for the HE championship

Don't worry, team by team the HE will respect the ECAC more and more. I'm sure BC does after Unions throbbing of them last year. I'm sure Lowell does after Yale ousting them and then Q working them pretty good this year. Now PC and UVM's turn to be converted ;)

Got a task for you. Go look at conference standings this year. Now, ECAC played 2 extra league games, compared to HE. So, subtract 2 points from each ECAC school tally, to make things simple.

Pretty darn similar results in the point columns down to 7-8. HE may arguably have been the strongest conference this season, but the ECAC has a pretty strong claim to that as well. This regional will have 3 very good games most likely, and should be very fun for hockey fans to watch.

Come on JK, this jcarter guy is right. As ECAC fans we should bow down to this obviously superior Vermont team. Union has no chance, and frankly we shouldn't even buy tickets for Bridgeport. Break up the Catamounts!

Re: East Regional- Union vs Vermont & Quinnipiac vs Providence

Hockey East or ECAC final, or a mixed bag? I like PC over a disappointing Q. Union is solid, but the Cats, from the bottom of Hockey East will give the ECAC champs a battle. McCarthy will show the country he should be a Hobey Baker finalist, second only to all world Johny Goudreau.

Not sure how you can call a #2 seed a disappointing team. Yes they struggled without JST down the stretch but he is a huge factor and will be playing against the Friars who at times themselves were sleep walking through their season in the Hockey East at times. The crowd should be heavily favored towards Quinnipiac in this regional and that could be a big plus for them.

Although an ECAC fan I have seen Vermont play several times this year on NESN. They are a solid and good team. If Union doesn't bring their "A" game they will be out after the first game. I really think Bridgeport is a very tough pairing of 4 teams. Union drawing Vermont in the first round was not a good or easy draw for them. Lot's of easier teams elsewhere.

I was at Hamden last Saturday for QU-Yale. QU did not look like a disappointing team that night, and they were 1 minute from being in the ECAC final on Friday. Credit to Colgate for the incredible comeback and taking it up a notch in OT.

Re: East Regional- Union vs Vermont & Quinnipiac vs Providence

This just in, QU is hiring Bruce Delventhal to coach the team so it's an all former/present Union coached Regional.

Re: East Regional- Union vs Vermont & Quinnipiac vs Providence

who did you hear this from? certainly wasn't from bc fans.

Just general ECAC bashing. HE is the best conference in college hockey. The ECAC has improved and played them very tough the last 4 years. The gap has narrowed. Jcarter is starting the drumbeating this year with idiotic statements like there is a "tremendous" difference.

Re: East Regional- Union vs Vermont & Quinnipiac vs Providence

i thought he was talking how the 7th and 8th place teams in hockey east are better than the 7th and 8th place teams in the ecac. i mean it is pretty crazy that a league can have 7th and 8th place teams make the tourney. one beat bc in a series and one gave lowell a fight. even providence is a tough out. they play a borderline game, on the edge if you will. very physical, tough team to play against. union is obviously great but even quinnipiac doesn't appear to be quite as good as last year. hockey east is deeper but union very well may be better than any team hockey east has to offer.

That will happen when you lose 11 seniors off the National Runner up team. Quinnipiac's record would be much better if not for the loss of Jordan Samuels Thomas for a good stretch at the end of the season and the fact Peter Quenneville ditched them for major juniors early in the season. They have had a very good season in making the tournament after getting cleaned out of a lot of players the previous year.

Re: East Regional- Union vs Vermont & Quinnipiac vs Providence

that's fair, no question about it. still a very good team.

Re: East Regional- Union vs Vermont & Quinnipiac vs Providence

I don't read much about Quinnipiac hockey, but do they have strong fan support? Their proximity obviously helps in boosting attendance.

Quinnipiac played to 110% capacity this season in their arena, which seats just over 3,000 fans. They had 3,400 people in the building every night. So, they draw pretty well.
