Re: Drop The Puck Already! NMU @ Wisconsin, 10/7/11

Notes from NMU Head Coach Walt Kyle's pre-game interview:
-had to scale back hopes last year, disappointment in last season's finish.
-Guys immediately went to work, had a great summer of training.
-Excited for new faces, strong core of leaders in Cherny, Gron, etc.
-Very motivated by last year's elimination at the hands of BGSU
-No real prolific guys, but lots of contributors and depth.

Thoughts on positions:
Goal:
Ellingson and Coreau have the potential to be one of the top goaltender tandems as long as they work hard
Defense:
Position should be very strong for NMU as a whole. Confidence in Sophomores and Juniors due to last year's experience Freshmen Jones, Baker, and Walker have size, could be big contributors with experience.
Forwards:
Strong returning group in Florek, Gron, and Cherniwichan. No top guys a la Mark Olver, but solid, all around players. Seen growth in Higby, Vigier.

Talk of "New, Old Guys"
May take a while, but have a lot to offer the team.
Thurber: "bulit like a fire hydrant", can do some offensive work as well.
Seckel: Good speed, ability to hit on open ice, can be play maker.

Other notes:
Some D's will play F, vice versa, will play everyone to counteract fatigue.

Re: Drop The Puck Already! NMU @ Wisconsin, 10/7/11

Game is on Fox Sports WI. Sadly Fox College Sports did not pick it up nationally. For those who care, Gophers vs Sacred Heart and North Dakota vs. Air Force are the other games on the air.

Re: Drop The Puck Already! NMU @ Wisconsin, 10/7/11

Starters:

NMU:
Seckel-Thurber-Kaunisto

And for the last time, "Yoga" is not a verb, 2nd Skin Shop.

Re: Drop The Puck Already! NMU @ Wisconsin, 10/7/11

Florek has the first scoring opportunity, goes wide.
Shot by Wisco, Ellingson gets the first save of the year.

Re: Drop The Puck Already! NMU @ Wisconsin, 10/7/11

NMU goes on their first PP of the year on a Wisco hook. Faust (sp) for hooking at 3:02 of the 1st.

Re: Drop The Puck Already! NMU @ Wisconsin, 10/7/11

Freshman Jones with a powerful shot, no dice. Halfway through the PP.
