Drinking Thread: Three Sheets To The Wind

I have made it. The bar I go to almost every Friday afternoon/evening has now started putting a "reserved" sign at my spot at the end of the bar...




Drink at the bar nothin' bar anything
But the bottom step of the ladder

Picked up a bottle of kvass from my local Polish grocer. I've seen people drink this stuff on YouTube travel vlogs in Eastern Europe, where it is commonly served as a beverage for the table, but I had never had the chance to try it myself until now.

If you don't know, kvass is a very low alcohol malt drink (1.5% ABV or less) - it's considered N/A by most. I believe it was developed during medieval times because frigid NE Europe didn't produce enough spare barley malt and/or other grain to regularly make beer, but potable water was still unreliable to drink. It is typically homebrewed in a large glass jar using stale rye bread, honey or fruit, and water. There are also commercial brews available like the one I purchased, which start with a concentrated wort and a bit of baker's yeast instead of the stale bread.

This particular one was made in Ukraine, and kind of tastes like if mead and strong Belgian ale had a low-alc kid. Leaning very sweet and bready, but with a bit of a sour finish. The sourness I guess varies depending on how much sugar and fruit were added to the brew.
