Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

Just got an email to sign up for these lottery drawings at a local liquor store. Wish they did this for rum although I realize there'd be very limited interest.

George T. Stagg Retail Price: $99.99

William Larue Weller Retail Price: $99.99

Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Retail Price: $99.99

Eagle Rare 17 Yr Retail Price: $99.99

Sazerac 18 Yr Retail Price: $99.99

Black Maple Hill Oregon Straight Rye Retail Price: $79.99

It's cool that they do it though.

They don't do it for rum because there's enough good rum for people who want to buy it. You should be happy. :)

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

While I'm making the home improvements I mentioned above, I find a funny looking bottle in one of my daughters' closet. Different daughter than the absinthe drinker--this one's a senior in college. This bottle is made of all kinds of colors and has a hose leading to it. My kids are real health conscious, so I've decided this must be some way to blow oxygen into water (or some other health drink) to oxygenate it so it is healthier to drink. My kids are perfect and would think of something like this. Not like other people's kids.

I assume this is tongue-in-cheek humor on your part, right? It's not quite as bad as when I visited my son at college and found a booklet called "how to build your own water pipe" laying out on a table. You'd think he'd at least have stuck it in a drawer before we showed up to visit.

Woohoo! Went beer hunting. Browsing the bombers, and the clerk mentioned that they had Rum King, which was exactly what I was hunting for. Got their last two bottles. :D

They were limiting it to 1 bottle up this way. Northgate would only give me 1 a few days ago when I bought mine, and the guy at Rum River told me today that the 6 bottles he got from the distributor only went out 1 by 1 to people that specifically asked for it. I think you're probably pretty lucky to get 2 of them. :p The guy at Rum River said they still have bottle available at the brewery as well, but he didn't know how long they'd last.

Oh I know I got lucky. The clerk happened to mention they had it when she saw me perusing the bombers intensely. When she put down one bottle, I asked if there was a limit. She asked the other clerk, who answered, "Um, how about 2?" (not knowing they only had 2 left) I replied "Perfect." And then I did a happy dance. :D

Tried a Bear Republic Grand Am american pale ale tonight. Not bad. Not as good as their Racer #5 but still worth drinking.

I will literally pay you $75 if you win the Stagg and get it to me. $100 is not retail.

Founders' Mosaic Promise. It's a special beer that they brewed for the ArtPrize event in downtown Grand Rapids, MI this year. It's made exclusively from Golden Promise malt and Mosaic hops, hence the name.

Still trying to figure out what the beer tastes like, though. I'll finish the 6er I have in my fridge, but am unsure if I'll buy it next year.

Killed off my bottle of El Dorado 15 tonight.

Won't be restocking it as while it's good, I much prefer the El Dorado 12 (which will be a permanent fixture) and need the shelf space for some others that I have my eye on.

I have found that the oldest of (insert booze) isn't necessarily the best. I much prefer the Pappy 20 vs the 23, and the Balvenie 12 or 17 over the 21.

Without question.

I prefer the Flor de Cana 7 to the 12 also.

Before the purists/etc come in....I don't mean to say that the oldest tastes nasty.....but sometimes, less is more.

Of course, the ones I cited are quite nice - just prefer their younger siblings and don't need both from the same family.

It depends on alot of things. What kind of flavor you like, what kind of barrels are used, what kind of liquor is going into the barrels, etc. Sometimes younger is better, but rarely is a scotch in the 7 year range better than a 12, and 50 years sure does some good.

Angostura 7yo and RC on a beautiful sun splashed day at Camp Randall. This just in... Maryland sucks.

And yes, they serve RC here.

Just about everything I've had from Bear Republic is good. They get the most attention for Racer 5 (I guess maybe by default because it has the widest distribution), but the less hoppy stuff (I really like Red Rocket Ale) is solid too.

Wait... do you mean RC Cola? That stuff still exists?
