Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome!

Having a Magic Hat #9 from a build-your-own 6er. I had heard that this was supposed to be a pretty good beer, but I am thoroughly unimpressed. Glad I didn't get more than 1 bottle of this garbage.

With the hint of apricot (???) I think it's something a lot of people either really enjoy or don't like at all.

Tried the Ashtray Heart by Evil Twin (smoked porter). As a hater of smoke beers, Evil Twin is 2-for-2 in this dept (Cowboy is a smoked pilsner). Love it.

Mikkeller Not Just Another Wit was also had recently. REALLLLLLY citrus-y. Wish I would have split that bottle (bomber). But it was tasty.

And bbdl was correct on that tonic he has. Holy hannah what a difference.

I just had an Evil Twin recently... forgot the name, but it blew me out of the water (negatively) with a mint-like taste.

Their "worst" beer I've had by them has been the Hop Flood, but that's because I dislike hoppy beers. And that beer was STILL very good for its style.

Pumpkin beer. Too soon? I have to say, I'm pretty much ready for a Southern Tier Pumking.

Is Pumking any good? I saw it at the liquor store and almost grabbed a bottle. I like pumpkin beers but they are so hit or miss that I always ask before buying.

Pumking is my personal favorite pumpkin beer. If you like some pumpkin beers, I'd say it's worth a try. At a bare minimum, it's also 8.something percent, so even if you don't like it, at least you'll get a buzz.

I would second that. Super hit and miss with pumpkin beers (and they are not my favorite) but Pumking is a solid choice.

Having a Aun Mas Cafe Jesus by Evil Twin. It's excellent.

ABInBev looking to buy SABMiller.

No way this should be allowed to go through. The justice department should be all over this.

Let it. They both make garbage, let them both wallow in the same landfill.

Any of you have any experience with Absinthe? My wife and I have a bottle left by a daughter living abroad, and we've no experience mixing or drinking it. I've read a little online, but tips from a fellow hockey fan would carry far more weight. Looks like a good brand of paint thinner, so I'm eager to try it.

I'm not a fan of the taste. I forget how I had it (it was years ago, and it was mixed for me; apparently in a by-the-book way), but I wouldn't drink it again.

Pour it in a glass and pour water over a sugar cube through a sieve or a slotted spoon. I'm guessing you don't have an absinthe spoon lying around.

You could use a larger spoon, just make sure you aim right.

Put my name down on the list for Surly 8 tonight. I'll have to hit my other store tomorrow to get my name on their list. Hopefully I can snag a couple bottles.

Surly hard to get? I lucked out with the Headdy Topper tonight. I stopped in the liquor store about 6:30. The lady told me their delivery came in that afternoon, and is usually sold out within 2 or 3 hours.

Their annual releases are difficult to get. I've only recently gotten into them, starting with the SeVIIn last year. Darkness is really tough to get, too. Pentagram (sour beer) was tough the first year, but I still see bottles of that around this year. I'm not a big fan of their regular beers, but the SeVIIn is awesome (still have one bottle of that) and the Darkness is amazing.

Edit: over on GPL, someone said that Surly 8 is finished, so it should hit in a couple weeks.

Saw bomber(s) of pumking at my publix almost right behind my house. Picked up one of those and a sixer of Sam's Octoberfest, since I know what I'm getting with that.
