Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

I have their Old Port Rum and have seen the whiskey in stores. Will keep an eye out for it.

Around my area in Minnetonka, it goes for about $40/bottle.

And IIRC you were the one who tipped us off on the Pappy bar (Greenbush?), and not looking back, dunno if I thanked you, so I will thank you now. :)

Greenbush is a favorite pre-game haunt of ours for Badger hockey games - love their pizza and the hole-in-the-wall ambiance. They have a better than most rum collection too although it pales in comparison to their whiskey/bourbon/scotch collection.

Glad you enjoyed. :)

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

The pizza was excellent (downed a 12" thin crust with ease). The only reason I looked at a menu was to choose my topping, honestly. I had shown up right at opening, only person there, so talked with the 'tender at length about the bar, the city, etc. Loved the ambiance of the bar, and of course the selection. Kinda wish I wasn't driving more that day. ;)

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

It's driving me nuts. I really love the Edel Pils from New Glarus, but can never find it. According to their website, it's a "beer we have known and loved", which makes me think they don't make it anymore. But then again, it's listed there along with their Marzen, so what do I know?

As a follow up to this...

I had an Edel Pils at a friend's house yesterday. He lives down by New Glarus and they made a batch of the E.P. for their 25th anniversary and sold it on a limited basis and he got some.

So I have actual confirmation that it isn't currently available.

Maybe someone else can explain this to me: what's the big deal about Shiner Bock? The wife and I were out for BBQ last night for dinner (tangent: New York is a great BBQ city these days, with an especially good variety of places making excellent Texas-style brisket) and one of the few beers available at the place was Shiner Bock. I figured, hey, this is something that people like in Texas, and the more local beers they had were all things I've had before and see pretty often. And... eh. I mean, it's OK, but I don't get why everyone was all excited like "HEY WE CAN GET SHINER BOCK HERE IN NEW YORK NOW!!!!!"

It's an okay beer, but nothing I'd make an effort to get. People just get excited because they've heard about it but haven't been able to purchase any. Once it becomes an option locally, that fervor seems to die down. At least, that was my experience with it, watching some buddies go gaga over it for a bottle or two.

There was a time that people smuggled Coors back with them when they went to Colorado. I remember it being this mythical thing to have Coors and the joy when it finally became available east of the Mississippi.

Who knows? People are stupid.

There are so many good beers now that I can't imagine getting overly excited about any regional beer finally making it to my market.

Then again, I've grown extremely meh about beer in general, so there's that.

Same exact thing happens with Yuengling (sp) and people from the Midwest... Just a case of the grass being greener on the other side of the fence...

Yep, I've been around people ordering those over and over...

I like Shiner Bock. Its not some outstanding beer, but it is a good, standard, easy to drink beer. I put it in the same category as Spotted Cow, Fat Tire, and Grain Belt Nordeast.

Exactly. The people I question are the ones who state one of those as their favorite. I will order all of those occasionally but it is usually when the beer list is **** and it is between that and a **** light beer.

I know this may sound absurd, but I had a Schlitz while golfing on Saturday morning before the wedding, and it wasn't nearly as terrible as it should have been. I have tried much worse cheap swill than that stuff.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Schlitz is my cheap swill of choice.

Shoot darn.

That was probably my favorite of their light hued beers.

Got 4 tickets to the Autumn Brew Review. Yeehaw!

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

Discovered Milwaukee Brewing Company. Found a 4 pack by them called Louie's Demise. Pretty good amber ale. I am waiting for one of my liquor stores to purchase their stout called Polish Moon. If you are from Milwaukee, the name is hilarious.

The Polish Moon is pretty good, right along the lines of Left Hands Milk Stout

Just don't try Louie's Revenge. Worst barrel aged beer I've tried.

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

MKE is all over here. I haven't had any yet, did recall people talking about Louie's Demise.

They have a few tea infused beers that I really like. If you are ever in Milwaukee, they have many very good beers on tap at the Milwaukee Ale House that they do not offer in stores.

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

Made mahi fish tacos for dinner and I can't have that without some rum.

Started with a Cruzan Single Barrel and Coke.

One of the toppings for the tacos is canned tropical fruit (mango, papaya & pineapple). I combined the juice with Flor de Cana Extra Dry 4 yr light rum and it was superb.

Now back to the Cruzan.

Beautiful hump night on the deck. :)

Yeah, I should get down to Milwaukee again in the near future. I should be a good kid and see my parents, family, and bar family down there.
