I haven't discovered it yet, but I've got to imagine that there is a point of no return for aging alcohol where it stops enhancing it and just makes it woody.

It might be evaporated before that point. The amount of actual liquid in the barrel after 50 years of aging is very small. The angels can drink alot during 50 years.

Alright, so help me out now...

Whiskey & Bourbon

As shown in the photo, my whiskey & bourbon selections are not quite complete. I'd like probably two more and I'd like to remove the CC.

I have:

Bourbon - Johnny Drum & Jack

irish Whiskey - Bushmills & Tullamore Dew

Blended Canadian - Pendleton

Of those, my favs are the Bushmills and Pendleton. Not much of a bourbon drinker although I'd like to add one there that's a notch above the two I have and probably like to add another blended Canadian whiskey.

Realize that I don't need or want anything too high end as for the most part, I'll be mixing should I drink these. Guests will do as they see fit of course. Wouldn't mind having something pretty nice for special occasions.

I've been eyeballing the Woodford Reserve for a year or more now but just haven't pulled the trigger. In terms of the blended varieties, there are any number of craft brands that are usually on the shelf next to or near the Pendleton.

Thoughts?

Bourbon "Nicer" Option -- The Woodford is a fine choice for your "nicer option" without getting into the stratosphere, price-wise. Also in the "I'm surprised this is not more expensive" list is the Evan Williams Single Barrel. Very tasty to sip, with just a splash of water to tame down the heat.

Bourbon "Mixer" Option -- Maker's Mark is always welcome. It's a little light and just a little sweet for my tastes, but it mixes well. If you like more zing, Bulleit has a real bite; it comes from blending some rye in with the usual corn. My personal favorite, though, is Elijah Craig, which for me perfectly splits the difference: It's balanced enough to mix really nicely, but there's also enough punch that it's nice to sip on its own.

I think Maker's Mark is probably what you're looking for. Something you'd mix, but can be sipped neat too.

I used to think that Maker's elevated Coke to all kinds of awesome, but I rarely mix anymore.

Sitting here at Bastone Brewery in Royal Joke...err, Oak. Pretty good milk stout. Switching over to Pilsner for my pizza.

The only stuff I mix starts with a "J" or comes from Canada. :p

So what would a Highland Park 50YO Single Malt and Coke set me back?

Or better yet, a Highland Park 50YO Single Malt Old Fashioned Sweet.

:D:p
Your first born...but, only so they don't learn how to do something incredibly stupid like mix $17K scotch with Coke...:D

My bad... 7up is what I meant. :D:p

I only mix Evan, and not the Single Barrel Evan. I don't bother with Jack unless I'm at the bar and am mixing American whiskey.

Discovered Valley Taphouse in Apple Valley last night. Great selection of beers. I was drinking Lakefront Brewery Amber. I cannot remember the exact title, but it was really good.

That's currently at my local store for $52.99/bottle. I passed for the time being.

It was $48 at the store I got it from. So the price range seems consistent...

And it's tasty.

Mirrors are up (yesterday).

Backsplash today.

And yes... this will be my project blog. :p

Backsplash is up. Now, I'm told I have to wait three days for this to cure before grouting?

Seems like an excessive amount of time. Anyone have tile experience?

Downed a bottle of Riesling with our Turkey dinner with a little help from the wife.

Gebruder Ludwig Riesling Trocken 2011 - was nice. Dry for what I've typically had in a Riesling.

Now to decide whether to continue or not for the Brewer game.

Going to try some local Ecuadorian cerveza. I was told that Club is better than Pilsener. Apparently those are the only 2 choices. Might be switching to rum drinks, since that would be appropriate given the climate.
