They did. Can't fault them, again. Remember, if they lose tonight, they're playing next weekend. In the MCHA's infinite wisdom, the #2 team in this conference will play next weekend, while the #3 seed will get a bye.

I personally think Adrian needs to play their not so normal Saturday and turn it up, just cause.

I'm not sure there is a normal Saturday for this team this year. They tanked against Marian and MSOE on Saturday, but they took it to Hamline on a Saturday as well. Who knows what is going to happen.

FWIW, Mike Towns got a 5 and a game DQ for slashing at the end of the game.

Yeah, what'd he do there?

Not too many good reasons to take a penalty at the 20:00 mark of the 3rd, especially one that'll get you suspended.

Either way, congrats to the bulldogs on clinching the regular season title again.

. The penalty was called by the linesman when the 2 player bumped into each other at the buzzer. The linesman over-reacted. The Refs said they didn't see anything. I've seen more contact in girls hockey. This should not have been called at all. I think they have asked for the video tape.

Yep. Adrian, MSOE, Lake Forest and Concordia make up the Southern Division. Marian, Lawrence, Northland, and Finlandia make up the Northern Division.

Play each team in your division 4 times, all the others 2 times. For a total of 20 conference games. Top in each division (calculated using total conference record) are awarded the #1 and #2 seeds.

It's also possible for the third WORST team to miss playoffs while the 2nd worst plays, because the bottom in each division is eliminated from playoffs. Middle teams in each division play each other for the first round.

I looked it up, and because of that, schedules between the two divisions are not compatible. That makes it make mathematical sense. It's too bad the divisions couldn't have been seeded so that of the top two teams, one was in one division and the other was in the opposite one. Hey, that's life.

I guess so. From what I can tell, when the MCHA decided to go to a 20-game schedule, they went to 2 divisions so that they could easily schedule 20 games (4 against the 3 teams in your division, and 2 against the 4 teams in the other division).

Seems to me it would just be simpler for 1 to host 8 if you ask me. Then again, that would just mean Adrian would have another anchor on their record when it comes to playoff selection time as well.

That's exactly why they went to a 6-team tournament. The bottom two teams in the MCHA have been absolutely horrid the last few years, and the top two teams don't need that killing their SOS.

I suspect that the chalk will hold in the 1st round this season, but I wouldn't put it past Northland to get past Lawrence in that series. I expect MSOE to handle Lake Forest in relatively short order.

To me, the right way to do this is to have the divisions solely for coming up with a regular season schedule. When the conference starts, drop-kick the divisions and go with straight conference standings. The fact that MSOE has to play next weekend, potentially as an MCHA co-champion, while Marian finishes 3rd and gets a bye into the semis, is ridiculous.

Being away from the Kern Center today, I'm hoping someone can tell me how the heck Keller got a game misconduct.

My money is on him saying a few magic words after an Adrian goal. The goal at 18:52 matches the time of his game misconduct.
