Do the 2010-2011 Minnesota Wild deserve a thread?

Re: Do the 2010-2011 Minnesota Wild deserve a thread?

Stupid decision by the wild.

I'm thinking Fletcher jumped the gun here a bit. I thought he deserved another year or two. If next year incredibly miserable, maybe after next season.

Even though their play at the last part of the year was tough to watch, please God do not go back to five guys skating backwards. If they do that, I might have to be done with them.

Now they can hire one of those retread guys that jumps from team to team every two years. I can barely contain my excitement.

Re: Do the 2010-2011 Minnesota Wild deserve a thread?

I also think that this was a stupid decision. How many wins can management expect when they give a coach Kyle Brodziak to center the top line?

Re: Do the 2010-2011 Minnesota Wild deserve a thread?

I don't know who it was that first said it (goon?), but when it takes Richards until the last game of a struggling season before he thinks "Hey, my lines aren't working, let's try Koivu and Bouchard together", isn't it possible that maybe he doesn't have it in him to right a sinking ship?

Re: Do the 2010-2011 Minnesota Wild deserve a thread?

The team seems to be stuck in no man's land: they aren't bad enough to build through the draft, and they aren't good enough to make the playoffs. With their personnel, I don't know if a good coach will matter all that much - exactly how much is a coach worth win-wise? Even if they stole a guy like Babcock, it might only be good enough to get them up to 8th in the West with their lack of firepower / depth.

I say it's time to blow up the roster.

Re: Do the 2010-2011 Minnesota Wild deserve a thread?

From the sounds of it the players quit listening to him anyway.
Can't fire all the players.

Sometimes I wish you could. I'd only keep a couple anyway.

I don't want this to be one of those things where they have to be absolutely terrible for a good number of years to get good picks, and then have a great team for two years before they have to blow it up again for cap space.

Re: Do the 2010-2011 Minnesota Wild deserve a thread?

I know you missed the playoffs, but you did ruin Dallas' playoffs hopes. I think Wild fans will enjoy that.

Here is my list of Wild players who are untouchable:

Honestly, Dallas isn't as high on my list of hated teams as one might think. Dallas didn't steal our team, that was all on Norm Green, the Gund Bros. and everyone who wouldn't put up with either one of them.

My list of hated teams is roughly as follows:

1. Vancouver
2. Chicago
3. San Jose
4. Anaheim (and that's only partially because of my Wild fan-hood)

Dallas is nowhere near the top ten.

Too long of list [/scooby]

They need to NOT trade away prospects in a futule effort to try and make the team better right away. Trade experenced NHL assets to picks and prospects and build from within. Be massively awful for two or three years and get some top 3 picks, which is what happened to both the Pens and B'hawks and allowed them to draft players like Towes, Kane, Malkin, and Crosby.

Re: Do the 2010-2011 Minnesota Wild deserve a thread?

...which is why I said blow it up. Really, what the **** can they build around with their current roster? They have a couple decent players, but they don't have any elite ones. It's time to trade away everybody with a salary over $3 million for draft picks. With any luck, in 3 years, the team will be in the playoffs again, and perhaps in 4-5 years, will be contending for actual hardware for once.

Depends on how long it takes to clear the bad contracts off the books. I want to see them get as close to the salary FLOOR as possible, then they can take picks & prospects in exchange for taking on expiring contracts so that other teams can make moves at the trade deadline.

This only makes sense as a move because I have faith that Fletcher wont **** the picks down the drain like DR would have.

I don't think that firing Richards is going to make the team any better at all, my fear is that they will try and make moves to win now and make the playoffs as an 8 seed. This team has no real franchise cornerstone player, and isn't going to get one by picking in the 7-12 spots of the draft.

Try and trade up in the draft maybe? Although it would be awfully costly to do, it would likely dump salary space and give them a shot at a cornerstone franchise player? (I'm just throwing random stuff out there, the team's going nowhere fast.)

No, the cost would be way to high for a team that has many, many holes to fill.

But at some point does it become worth it if the team has one or two ****ty, ****ty years to become youthful and contending? I totally agree with your point, I'm just throwing possibilities out here:p
