Directv question

Eagles

Seguin!
So we made the switch from Comcast to Directv yesterday. Unfortunately I dont have NESN. Do I have to buy the entire sports package or can I add just one channel?

You have to buy the sports package, but it's worth it. The college hockey alone is worth the price. Be aware that if you are outside NESN's home market you are still subject to blackouts (so the Red Sox and Bruins will be blacked out on NESN, and the Celtics will be blacked out on Comcast Sportsnet).

Edit: Your profile says you're from Boston...I think you should have NESN. Call customer service and check.

Re: Directv question

As Priceless said you should be getting NESN. I do think that you can buy individual channels. I add that when one buys the sports package, major league games are still blacked out. You have to buy the league packages to see them, however you do get everything shown on the local sports channel with the basic package.

Re: Directv question

I checked like a 100 times cause I missed the Bruins today but I definitely don't have NESN. I live in Malden which is about a 5 minute drive from Boston so I am certainly in the market. I will have to give Directv a call tomorrow and see what the deal is.

Re: Directv question

NESN is only in the sports pack or the Premier package normally. There is also not an option to add single channels with the exception of really expensive ones like Playboy, Setanta, etc.

But he lives in Boston. Don't you have a local sports channel included?

I thought it was in the choice package also, I was looking yesterday to see if a switch to Direct was worth doing

Comcast Sportsnet (formerly the Fox Sports affiliate) must be the "free" Boston station. They have Celtics games; the Bruins and Sox are on NESN. With the sports pack you get all the sports nets, Fox Soccer, ESPN Classic, YES, Fox College Sports etc. Definitely worth the price if you can afford it.

And the special $100 offer that's in my sig is only good until the end of the year...

How does the discount in your sig work?

Call the 800# and order DTV and give that account number as a referral. You get a $10 credit on your bill for the first 10 months. As the referrer, I also get 10 $10 credits. But you have to have the number when you order. Supposedly, the program ends at the end of the year, but I suspect they'll renew it.

Re: Directv question

They've had some sort of "refer a friend" program for a long time. It used to only be $50 to each.

And until Comcast and DirecTV stop being a-holes, you won't get Versus, either.

This is incorrect, but it might depend on who you talk to at DirecTV. When my parents had DirecTV installed over the summer it was right around the time when Versus was removed from their programming. After hockey season started, my dad called them and basically told the person that the major reason they went with DirecTV was because of the sports they offered and that included Versus. He went on and on about his passion for hockey and hunting and then brought up the fact that he thought it would be fair if they gave him the Outdoor Channel (or one of the hunting channels that's only available on the highest package, I think it was the O.C.) as a replacement for Versus. The next day, they had it.

Now, I should tell you that my dad is a salesman and has been for 30 years, so that might have helped a bit, but it can't hurt to try a tactic like that. :)

Re: Directv question

I had Versus on Comcast but now I dont have it on Directv...

Comcast owns Versus and they are trying to squeeze every last cent out of DirecTV. DirecTV has decided to tell Comcast to screw off and therefore they do not offer Versus.

Yeah, pretty much if you call and haggle the right person you can get them to give you things...Dish gave me Showtime free for three months so I could watch Weeds with the idea that I would buy it later. The DTV supervisor for this area gave me his personal cell so if I had any technical issues I could call him directly.

If you call, be nice to the frontline people...they have the ability (and the authority) to give you really cool things.

Re: Directv question

If it's Fixed News that's not much of a loss. :p

If it's Fox Movie Channel or FCS that's huge.

If it's Fox, that's catastrophic.

driving through the nyc area this week and last, that was all i heard on the radio. every other commercial is, "call time warner to save your fox".:p
