Direct TV vs Comcast in Mass

Re: Direct TV vs Comcast in Mass

Don't forget that additional receivers are $5 each month. Not sure how many TVs you have.

Re: Direct TV vs Comcast in Mass

Even if you don't have an HDTV, the next one you buy almost certainly will be. If you get it I would get the HD dish and receiver b/c they will probably throw them in free(and may or may not try to charge you if you want to upgrade later). Obviously there is no point in paying for the extra HD channels until you have the TV though.

Getting an HD receiver with a Standard TV would be annoying. You would have to go up one channel every time you chose a channel that has an HD option.

The receiver defaults to the HD version of the channel.

This stuff is all stuff I had no idea about. We are very low tech but it is starting to get way to expensive to stay that way.

I think you can change that in the defaults.

Les, don't overthink this. It's easy to get flustered because there are quite a few options. You're already ahead of most people in your shoes because you asked for help. :p

You need to ask yourself,

What channels do you want?
How many TVs are you planning to hookup?
How long of a contract do you want to be locked into?
How much are you willing to pay?

I still have lil run the DVD player:o

Computers I am getting better at but the techno side of things gets me. Stuff moves so fast if you don't think ahead you can end up with obsolete things. I usually try and get teh cheapest cadillac version of what is out there and run it into the ground and then move up to the latest model. Never had to think about opions for TV except to whine because the Comcast folk have us over the barrel in our town- cable is up 300% in about 10 yrs with less of what we had before and less options. I am out in the 'boonies' section which still only gets slow DSL and only one cable option. The folks in the other side of town have options (what are those?? ) for everything.

One thing good about Dish is you can get a receiver that will run 2 different tvs in 2 different rooms. You get one regular remote and one UHF remote that will operate the receiver in another room.

Re: Direct TV vs Comcast in Mass

DirecTV service offers the most college hockey, when adding in the channels they carry of the Fox regionals.

CrapCast and Verizon here in Mass. do not have packages similar to that of DirecTV (SportsPack) where you can, from October until March, watch college hockey starting in the East on NESN, then migrate along to Minnesota games and usually a Denver game at the end of the night.

Refer to this website:

http://www.collegehockeylive.com/chl/default.aspx?f=y

Look at the bottom of the page for the channel coverage and you will see the lineup for the various satellite and terrestrial services.

I think the Versus problem will be solved somehow, but I can do without some NHL games in favor of all the college hockey I see otherwise with DirecTV.
