DIII Rankings

Can we finally discuss the fact that the coaches who rank the top teams in the country and have no idea what they are doing? Please look above at 'others receiving votes'. For a team that is 3-10-2 (Eau Claire) to have received 3 votes to be in the top 10 in the nation is a complete joke. Adrian is also 5-7. I don't think a below
.500 team deserves a top 10 ranking. St. Thomas swept UWSP and Eau Claire and gets zero recognition. I'm not sure who is on this committee but something needs to change in order for these rankings to mean anything. This would NEVER fly on the men's side.

Re: DIII Rankings

UST played UWEC and UWSP on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Before that they had two wins, thats why they got zero recognition. On MONDAY when the new poll comes out, UST shouldn't receive any votes. Three of their four wins have come against teams with below .500 records.
I do agree with you about why would anyone give UWEC a single vote.

Re: DIII Rankings

The better question is why is Gustavus so high....considering the only team they've beaten with a winning record is Superior at 6-4 :)

Re: DIII Rankings

polls mean absolutely nothing. and teams shouldn't pay attention to them either. just play the games and put yourself in position to get selected for the natl tourney!!

Re: DIII Rankings

Others receiving votes: Man'ville (9) St. Scholastica (3) Lake Forest (1) St. Thomas (1)

Keep it at Man'ville an save yourself the embarrassment.

Re: DIII Rankings

And you just said Superior shouldn't even be in there, so really, GAC hasn't beaten nobody worth a rip.

Re: DIII Rankings

Little surprised to see Superior still in there. Gustavus should get a little more love being the only undefeated team left....but as I said before...they haven't beaten anyone but Superior.

Gustavas gets plenty of love in the form of an open berth to the FF every year. KRACH has them at # 1 albeit with a very weak SOS.

Little surprised not to see Platty jump anymore than 2 spots after the win and tie on the weekend against the (former) # 1 team in the nation...

Norwich Women hold the #1 spot along with their D3 men's squad...The Prez will be well.... giddy.:)

Not every year. They have been to 5 of the 10 Frozen Fours. They are the only team out of the MIAC to make it...would be nice if another MIAC team could step up and take that away from them....Let's go Concordia! Where Stevens Point, River Falls and Superior have all gone from the NCHA.

I stand corrected...I was being a little facetious...

I'm with you though, big series coming up for the Gusties with Concordia at the end of the month. That will be telling.

Re: DIII Rankings

Guess I'm confused on how these polls work...RIT has a bad weekend and as a result, gets bumped to #2. Do they not still have a better record than #1 and did they not also beat #1 earlier in the season? They are just not liked are they?

No, but I don't think that's it. A lot of it is recent performance. Norwich's blemishes were months ago now, while RIT's were just this weekend. Plus Norwich's loss was to a higher-ranked team (RIT) than RIT's (Plattsburgh). You would think that head-to-head would be more of a factor, though.

I'd think that the fact that Norwich's loss to RIT was the first weekend of the season is forgiveable. Norwich has been steadily improving while RIT has had some struggles..close win over Trinity...4-0, 4-1 wins over Adrian...which sadly everyone though would be much more lopsided than that. Norwich recently beat Plattsburgh, RIT lost to them...all that factors in to Norwich being ranked over RIT

The best thing is that it is at Concordia. If Concordia could somehow sweep that weekend and get home ice in the MIAC playoffs that would be killer. You can tell how much I despise the Gusties by my cheering for the cobbers!

While I'm not truly arguing the rankings I guess what I don't understand is this year RIT loses to ranked Plattsburgh and drops a spot but last year loses to unranked Oswego and stays in first. To your point of scores it might be less not being able to score and more trying not to run up the score while still trying to make it look like your trying to score.

Loss and a tie (1 of 4 points). Also, there is no way a Scott McDonald team is not going to not try to score, especially with only a 3 or 4 goal lead. Any coach would want a few more goals before doing that. When they should have done that would have been with Chatham (15-0 and 14-1), that would have shown some class. In fairness, when you lose a Dagg, Stack and Galbraith (over 100 points) you have tough shoes to fill. They still have Elmira and Oswego to play and it would not be a big surprise if they went 2 and 2 or 3 and 1 in those 4 games. They are good, but I do not think they are the team they were last year, that was a special team that had a tough last game.
