Re: DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 2/1-2/7

Just a recap, here are our nominees thus far, with just under 24 hours until the deadline:

Alex Smigelski, Williams
Josh Leis, Plattsburgh
Ryan Purdy, Williams
Zach Hansen, Worcester State

Kory Grohl, Western NE
Zach kleiman, St. Scholastica

8 nominees. 5 of whom are goalies.

I'm going to guess that the misconduct and the roughing penalties were offsetting and the 5 minute major stood on its own.
Misconducts don't offset penalties, they stand on their own and serve either as ejections or cool-down periods for players. They don't effect on-ice action except for the fact that whoever got the misconduct can't play until it's over.

There must have been a change in the rules because that is what I think happened in the Bowdoin-Hamilton game. The Bowdoin player slashed and then the 2 players roughed each other - the Hamilton sat in the box for his 2 minute roughing but Hamilton still had 5 skaters while Bowdoin played a man down for the instigating slash. I'll check the rules and let you know whether I see anything that would explain.

I nominate Hamline's Kyle Kurr.

Senior forward had 2 goals and an assist in a 5-2 win over St. Johns and a goal and two assists in a 5-4 win over the Johnnies the previous game.

3 goals, 3 assists, 6 points.

The roughings offset.

The roughings offset.

There was no roughing call on the Bowdoin player listed in the boxscore. The boxscore says: slashing (Bowdoin player), roughing (Hamilton), and game misconduct (Bowdoin). Bowdoin played a man down after these 3 calls but Hamilton did not, which implied that the Hamilton penalty was offset by a Bowdoin penalty. I can't find anything in the rules that allows for the treatment of a 2-minute roughing penalty and a game misconduct as offsetting so I'm back to my original theory, which was that the scorekeeper forgot to list a second roughing penalty that was assessed against the Bowdoin player.

The box score for the game states that the goal that was immediately scored afterwards was 4x4 hockey.

Sounds like the box score isn't right.

josh calleja of river falls. scored all river falls 3 points 1 assist and 2 goals (1 was shorthanded) including game winner in the last 11 minutes of the stout game in the third period to come from behind down 2-0 to win 3-2. Then saturday they came from behind in third period again with calleja getting game winning assist in third period. scored all 3 assists in 3 period again to help beat eau claire. 6 point weekend.
