DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 2/1-2/7

CARDS_rule_the_Burgh

Nate LePage, Siena '13
Congratulations to St. Scholastica's senior goaltender Zach Kleiman, who has been named DIII Posters' Player of the Week for the week of 1/25-1/31. In an impressive weekend of perfection, Kleiman shut out both Wisconsin-River Falls and Wisconsin-Stout to put the Saints clear into second place in the NCHA conference, stopping 78 shots along the way. The comment received from a number of voters is that, given the quality of the opponents, it is difficult to beat perfection. In the subsequent week, Kleiman has lead the Saints to a tie with #3 (NCHA #1) St. Norbert and a 6-2 win over Wisconsin-Stevens Point, for a total of 62 saves, a .954 save percentage, and a 1.44 GAA, and will look for 2 more impressive games next week at Wisconsin-Superior and at home against Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Congratulations to Zach Kleiman, the DIII Posters' Player of the week

POTWs thus far this season:
Code:
11/23 - Eric Satim, Plattsburgh
11/30 - James Lacour, Salem State
12/7 - Neil musselwhite, Oswego
12/14 - Jon Whitelaw, Oswego
 1/4 - Spencer Anderson, Hamline
 1/11 - Colin MacCormack, Bowdoin
 1/18 - Derek Handon, Wis.-Stout
 1/25 - Zeke Testa, Babson
2/1 - Zack Kleiman, St. Scholastica

That's the old business, now it's onto the new.

Nominations are now open for the DIII Posters' Player of the Week for 2/1-2/7. Remember: the poll will be public, I reserve the right to publicly reject any nominations I deem ridiculous (I will provide my rationale if I must invoke this ability), and in the case of excessive nominations I will filter through the nominations and, again providing rationale, post a poll consisting of the 5 players I deem most impressive.

The deadline for nominations is 11pm ET on Monday. Let the nominations begin!

Ok, after last week, I guess I might as well not nominate Craig Serino, so I'll go with Williams' Alex Smigelski who in scoring his 16th goal of the season, but first game winner, succeeded in getting the monkey of Norwich's back.

Re: DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 2/1-2/7

What about Plattsburgh goaltender Josh Leis.

Stopped 17 of 19 shots vs. Middlebury while entering the game with a 3-0 deficit after 1 period.

Then stopped 34 of 35 shots in a 4-1 win vs. Morrisville.

Had a save % of .944 for the week and a GAA of 1.86.

Re: DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 2/1-2/7

I nominate Ryan Purdy of Williams College.

42 saves on 43 shots in one game against Norwich. 0.976 sv% and 1.00 GAA in 1 win.

Re: DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 2/1-2/7

In what is turning out to be a stacked week for goalies, I nominate Zach Hansen of Worcester State.

Hansen made 44 saves on 46 shots against Salem State, and made 36 saves on 38 shots against Plymouth State (both games ended in 2-2 ties).

Line for the week: 2 games, 80 saves, 0.952 SV%, 1.846 GAA

Also:
Congratulations to St. Scholastica's senior goaltender Zach Kleinman, who has been named DIII Posters' Player of the Week...
You've been misspelling his name. It's Zach Kleiman.

Re: DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 2/1-2/7

Fixed! Sorry about that, and thanks for the correction. As for your link - interesting that they list Quinnipiac University as his High School :p

I noticed that too. They wrote "Previous Team" on the main roster page, but for some reason, replaced it with "High School" on the individual bios (with some hilarious results). Only freshman goalie Kyle Moody's last team was actually a high school.

In what is turning out to be a stacked week for goalies, I nominate

Neumann's, Amherst transfer, Junior, Jonathan La Rose playing in only his second game of the year stopped all 39 shots he faced from Manhattanville, including 11 during the 5 minute OT, a full THREE minutes of which Manhattanville was on a power play! That is hitting the ground running.

Admittedly impressive, but you already nominated Smigelski. 1 nomination per poster, remember?

Which of these translates into "Only one nominee per poster." ;)

1) Make the Poll public

2) No voting for primary team of interest (nominations still allowed)

3) Nominator may not vote for his/her own nominee

4) Poll creator (CARDS_rule_the_Burgh) may reject a nomination (must provide rationale)

5) Poll creator (CARDS_rule_the_Burgh) filters nominees to 5 max (must provide rationale)

6) Leave the Poll as is

So, which one is your nomination? Going to retract your nomination for Smigelski just because he's not a goalie, and all of the other nominees are? :p

It's Player of the Week, not Goalie of the Week ;)

Why do people keep repeating this? It's just not true. The box score has not changed since it was posted soon after the game ended.

Neumann did take a major with 33 seconds remaining in the third period, but manhattanville also took a minor penalty of their own. Three minutes of power play time isn't anything to sneeze at, but it's not "almost all of overtime" "all but 27 seconds" or "nearly the entire OT", as people have been saying.

All the info is right there for anyone to look at. I'm assuming you did since you know how many saves he had, but you didn't look at how long the power play in OT actually lasted? And even if that minor hadn't been committed, it would've been 33 seconds of 5x5 at the end, not 27 ;)

Re: DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 2/1-2/7

As for a nomination: David Martinson, 3-2-5 weekend, including the only goals scored in saturday's 2-0 win that kept the gusties in first place in the MIAC, and improved them to 12-1-1 in their last 14 games.

He's also the only player in the country averaging over 1 goal per game.

Ok, upon closer examination:
Code:
NEU-12 Marlon Gardner ([B]5[/B]-Slashing) (Served by Steve Gervais) MAN 0x8 19:27
NEU-13 Marlon Gardner (10-Game Disqualification) 19:27
MAN-10 Arlen Marshall (2-Roughing) 19:27

It was 4x4 for 1:27, then 5x4 for 3 FULL MINUTES (60% of the entire OT), then 5x5 for the last 33 seconds.

Re: DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 2/1-2/7

I nominate Ryan Purdy of Williams College.

42 saves on 43 shots in one game against Norwich. 0.976 sv% and 1.00 GAA in 1 win.

I have to second this nomination, Purdy was like a brick wall and had control of 6 power plays and never gave an inch. As for Smigelski (sp?), yes he got the game winner, congrats, but it was inevitable with Norwich a man short, out of gas and really banged up. The better player for Williams was Purdy.

Okay, fair enough. One nomination per poster was a temporary solution to the problem of excessive nominees in the poll. I'll say both nominations stand. They both had impressive weekends anyway

And since we're allowing multiple nominations, I'll add the second one that I was debating:

Zach Kleiman (STS), 2 games, 62 saves, .954 sv%, 1.44 GAA against #3 St. Norbert and Wis.-Stevens point, for a 1-0-1 weekend, fresh off his POTW weekend ;)

For the record, as you might have suspected, I was just yanking your chain, though I do believe both are worthy of consideration. Keep up the great work - here  and the poll :o

I'm going to guess that the misconduct and the roughing penalties were offsetting and the 5 minute major stood on its own.
