Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

Re: Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

I haven't. Sounds like it is based on the Leaky Gut theory. Leaky gut is real but treating it with generic stuff is not the way to go. I have a colleague who treats this but in order to do that she does a full history, labs, sends stool samples for evaluation and then prescribes depending on the dysbiosis present. The treatment is very evidence based and pretty complex. I wouldn't try to manage it on a bet. I have seen amazing results when it is treated right. Just shooting in the dark, 'detoxing' and repopulating with probiotics, with no idea of the actual activity in the bowel is not right.

The GAPS stuff is based on SCD. http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/ SCD was developed many years ago so I wouldn't call it a fad diet, There have been a few studies done on the diet, that web page talks about the one just done by Rush University. It showed positive changes in gut bacteria following SCD. One really needs to read the book to get the whole idea of the diet.

Detox and cleanses are garbage. Why do so many people buy into this crap?

Eat a healthy, balanced diet. Don't eat everything just because it's set in front of you. Move your *** a little more often. Get sleep. Time tested. None of this pseudo science bull.

Scd has nothing to do with detox or cleanse nor is it about losing weight. it is about changing the microbial diversity in the gut for relief of Crohns, Colitis, IBS and other gut issues.

Agree. The premise for this is legit and works. Not a fad diet. The crap they promote to generically fix stuff isn't OK as it is not specific enough for each case. I've seen amazing results when people have had their gut bacteria manipulated to be more diverse. The avg Joe is not willing to make the changes needed or sustain them. They would rather take a pill and do what they want. (Cynicism on my part) When I asked my colleague why more GI docs weren't buying in her response was it was incredibly labor intensive for the provider and the patient. Not a viable option for practice that needs volume to meet overhead. She spends 1.5 hrs a visit with people. The patients also complain as they don't want to deal with the restrictions.

I've been doing it for over 3 years, it has helped me. It is hard in practice especially around holidays where food is a big part of it but its worth it.
