Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

Re: Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

My new measurements

Waist: 39.5" down from 41"
Hips: 41.5" down from 43"
Chest: 45" down from 46"

My new measurements

Waist: 39.5" down from 41"
Hips: 41.5" down from 43"
Chest: 45" down from 46"
Good work!

Mine are as follows:

Waist: 40" down from 41"
Hips: still at 46"
Neck: at 14.5"

Goal for the end of the year is a 36" waist with 42" hips. But I also know not to take my weight loss too far, as I've done in the past.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

So does watching an exciting hockey game while working out burn more calories?

Watched my team lose the the last place B1G team in OT, which kept my HR up for my entier workout.

Based on the machines, I burned 850 calories, but my HR monitor tells me that I burned closer to 1200. Interesting...

Believe your heart rate monitor. The calorie count on the machines is seldom accurate.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

Decided to make my own energy goop:

7-8 tbsp organic honey
1 tbsp blackstrap molasses
1 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Enough coffee to make it runny

Put into a 10 oz bottle, mix thoroughly, and take it with you on long runs.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

That sounds miserable.
Actually, it's pretty good. Tastes like sweetened coffee.

I also invested in a Road ID; figure if something happens to me while running, whoever finds me can call for help. And I bought a used GPS, a Garmin Forerunner 305. It's a good introduction to GPS training, and I think if I like it, I can upgrade or buy an entirely new model.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

A couple things: learned that the chest strap for the Timex Road Trainer must be tightened.

Two, a measurement check:

38" waist, down from 41"
45.5" hips, down from 46"
40" chest
14.5" neck

And three, here's why runners can't eat whatever they want. I used to believe I could come home from a long run and clean out the refrigerator...

Re: Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

I started Medifast back in mid-February because too many attempts to lose weight on my own have gone nowhere. I need the coaching, someone to hold my feet to the fire while going through the process. This coming Saturday I go in for my 8th weekly followup, and I expect to have dropped a little over 40lbs on that weigh-in. It's tough to know since my home scale isn't putting out the same readings as theirs. On the program, every four weeks they put you on an InBody machine which shoots an electric current through you to determine your body composition, it even segments it out between right arm, left arm, same for the legs, and the torso; it's not perfect as it says my legs were normal, but I know my touch that they're carrying excess weight. This is also the same machine used for the very first weigh-in so I trust it to be a more accurate statement of how much weight I've lost over the other scales in their office and at home.

As for exercise, I've been finally getting back into weight training. It's something I did a lot until September 2009 when I tore up the cartilage in my shoulder while playing hockey. Until I had surgery to repair it last spring I hadn't been able to do that, and February was the 9-month cutoff for such restrictions. Since then I've been slowly working my weights up to where I can be ...accepting of my new strength limitations.

As of my 4-week weigh in, my waist and chest were both down 1.5", neck down 1", upper arms down 1.25". I'm excited to see the new measurements come Saturday since I was once stretching my jeans at 48" and now it feels like the 46" I'm wearing now would slide down without my belt in place.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

Starting this week, my co-workers and I have a challenge to see who can lose the most body fat by mid-June. I really need to get my arse in gear so I can win. I started to eat less, and got a key to the "fitness" center at my apartment complex. Now to get motivated.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

I'm now down 45.8lbs since February 18. Things are feeling better now.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

Deciding I needed more flexibility and I wanted to reduce my chance of injuries, I started Jillian Michaels' Yoga Meltdown on Monday. I don't have all the moves down and dolphin pose is beyond me, but I'm trying.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

At my week 13 (3 months on the nose) weigh-in I was down 62lbs, this puts me under 300lbs for the first time since 2009. My weekly loss numbers are flattening a bit to 3.5lbs/week, but that's because I tweaked my back a few weeks ago and have had to cut out the weight lifting for the time being. Once that comes back, my weight loss should be helped by that.

Yes, I understand that 3.5lbs/week is still a very high number, but I was around 5lbs/week prior to my back pain.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

Well, I went ahead and put orders on everything I need for my first stab at p90x. Everything should be here within a week.

I like it with the exception that legs is more of an a** workout than actual legs. Plyometrics is probably my favorite.

I'm not too worried about my legs. It's the upper body where I've always lacked. That and cardio ever since I stopped playing soccer after high school. I've started to see some of that come back now that I'm playing soccer year-round. But I need to lose about 20-30 to start with. We'll see how that goes and readjust my goals up or down.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

Halfway (10 miles) through my first outdoor ride of the year. Feels good to be out in the country again.

Water and snack done, time to head back.
