Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

made it out of the frozen four relatively unscathed

here's the progress since i started doing weekly weigh-ins:

mid-february - 268lbs
3/10 - 258lbs
3/17 - 255lbs
3/24 - 251lbs
3/31 - 248lbs
4/07 - 246.5lbs
4/14 - 245lbs

plateauing a little bit, but still making progress. the ff definitely slowed things up a bit, but in the long run, i might be able to "shock" the system again and get into the 230's by the end of the month...

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

came pretty close to puking on todays crossfit workout of the day. They periodically do harder work outs , and the one I chose was 50 repetitions of a ton of body weight movements. It reads as if it would be a piece of cake, but by the time you are doing the U.S.A's, you want to curl up and die.

of course this year is "whatever it takes" so I just did them till I got noxious.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

My legs are starting to really tire out big time as I step up the tri training. Have a 5k out by my parents house on sunday, so I guess I need to take it easy tonight and tomorrow.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

Did 10 miles after a rather miserable week of running.

For what ever reason, it took me most of the week to recover from the Posters game on Saturday (maybe next year, I'll do a few pick up games in March).

Thursday, in particular, was hard- we had a sudden warm up, and it was just over 80F. My plan was a few intervals on UM's track (technically closed to the public, but no UM track people were on the track, and they didn't chase me off... :)). That was super tough- the heat really got to me.... HR way higher than normal, and I was really suffering. Man, I'm worried about this summer already.

But today- it was great. Nice controlled pace (9:28), and I was more bothered by the cool winds (40 this morning).

Still look good to pace a half at 9:10, to finish under 2 hours.

yeah, it happens. I did a 15 mile week this week and my muscles are fatigued a little bit, but I'm feeling good otherwise.

Hoping the wind dies down so I can get a ride in.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

I did my first 5 mile run since high school today! :) It was slow as heck (going off of clock time when I left and when I returned), but the point is that I did it. :D

There you go. :D

I ran 8 miles yesterday, followed by 3.25 miles this morning. With the Fifth-Third 25K coming up in a couple weeks, I've actually worked on slowing down and keeping a slow to moderate pace... I do not want to start too fast and have nothing left for the end.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

Set a new personal record for the 5k (I think) at 26:28 for an 8:27 pace. I was hoping to get below 8/mile for my sprint triathlon in august, but I'm not so sure that is going to happen.

you know what man? Don't worry about it. You got the running down; now get on the bike and in the pool. :)

As for me, I put in nearly a 15 mile week last week in terms of running. I'm adding some cycling and swimming to the mix today to complete my week. I have a 5 mile race next Sunday. I've been running a 5 mile run every week for a while and my muscles finally don't hurt when completing this distance. :)

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

Is there like a checklist for those buying a new bike (accessories?) and any recommended books?

I think a bike is the next thing I do.

What type of bike and what type of riding do you want to do? It is important to go to a local bike shop (or two or three) and get sizing and fit determined, then try out every bike you can that is the right size and just see what is comfortable. The other stuff depends on what type of riding you want to do.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

I just got done with 6 hockey games in 58 hours.

I hurt everywhere, and would like to never move again...

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

The first 3 week build period for my Ironman training plan is in the books.

Total for the 3 weeks:

Swim: 24,900 yards (7.33 hours)
Run: 76.3 miles (11.65 hours)
Bike: 339 miles (19.5 hours)
Total time: 38 hours 48 minutes.

This week: A much easier recovery week. And man I need it. I'm pooped.

I am finally starting Crossfit this week. I had to travel last week and because I have to do the on-ramp program I cant just go in and start (which is smart). I am excited though.

I am tired just looking at that.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

Goals for this year:

1) Eat healthier. I really need to start packing my lunch in the morning and bringing lunch to work. As it is, the good people at Wendy's are making a killing off of me. Sadly, I may also need to reduce my booze intake. Or at least calories from booze. So no more beer, just straight liquor!

2) Eat breakfast. Maybe this should be 1(a). I usually hit the snooze button two or three times and end up rushing out the door in the morning without eating breakfast. Sometimes I grab an apple or banana as I run our the door. I need to either wake up earlier, or keep a stash of oatmeal and peanut butter at work.

3) Get to the gym regularly. I was doing pretty good for about 3 months last year, then one thing led to another and I stopped going altogether. I think I got bored because I had it in my head that I needed to do cardio 6 days a week, and to me, cardio is boring. I'm going to try to change things up, and do at least 3 days a week of cardio, and 3 days a week of lifting. Also going to try to work in at least one circuit training session per week. They kick my butt, but they are fun. If I find myself getting bored with the fitness center at my apartment complex (which is small and fairly limited), I will get a membership at a real gym.

4) Lose 60 pounds. If I can do the above, this should be the easy goal.

Progress update: so far, so good.

Eating much healthier. Main change has been to eliminate fast food and overly processed food stuffs. I feel a lot better without all that processed crud in my body. Bringing my lunch to work has been key.

Goal 2 is still a struggle - I like my sleep and breakfast is still generally a rushed affair. Making myself at least eat something, though (usually a yogurt or wheat toast with peanut butter, and a banana/apple).

Have been getting to the gym at least 5 days a week, and usually 6. It's become routine now and I feel off when I don't go. I'm also in a much better mood after I go to the gym than before, so it's made me more pleasant to live with.

Lost 17 pounds since 2/28, pretty much all of it from my waist. I need new clothes since my pants are falling off and I'm swimming in my suits, but I don't want to spend money on new stuff since I've still got a good amount to lose.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

Thanks. Yep, Wisconsin it is.

hey, would you mind sending me your training plan for Ironman? I know I'm a ways off from doing it, but I'd like to see what you're up to and what I'm going to have to look forward to. :)
